Does anyone know the function of this "service"?

Does anyone know the function of this "service"?

No, but I shut it off the service a long time ago and haven't had any trouble
at all. Installing new drivers turns it back on.

I checked this out but could only find "Nvidia Display Driver Service". I
had no other entries. Is this the same thing and should I shut this down?

I would say its the same thing. Mine is Nvidia Driver Helper Service. Card
works fine without it.
