Radeon 9700 PRO vs. GeForce FX 5900
 

Hello!
I'm planning to buy a powerfull graphic card, which I'm exclusively
intending to use for fast gaming.
I need a card that is very good at 'AA' and other stuff.

So, my question is: Which of these two cards is supposed to be faster -
Radeon 9700 PRO or GF FX 5900 (note: NOT "ultra" version)?

Especially with DX90 support, and FSAA quality, the Radeon will be superior.
But since the 9700 Pro and the 9800 (non pro) are (about) the same price,
and equal in speed, it might be an idea to take that card under
consideration...

....or you can get the Saphhire OEM ATI 9800 np for less at newegg, flash its
bios to pro's and you have a pro from all reports. Have np here but not
ready to flash it yet. Figure use it a while at default to break it in so to
speak then oc when needed

5900 "non-ultra" cards are under $300 now.

So are the 9800 Pro cards if you shop around, I got mine for $299 from
compusa.

The $299 was a web only sale they were running last month, the in store
price was $349. So yes, it pays to shop around.

What's your favorite store? Shop all the big name stores, their ads,
their stock. Take the lowest price ad for what you want to your fave
store, most all of them do price matching. They do here in Houston for
sure :)
I usually buy at Circuit City. It's closest to me, they have a good
selection, and their prices are usually among the lowest. When they
aren't, they will match the lowest price and give you 10% of the
difference. "Nobody will undersell US!"
Unfortunately, nobody in this area actually has the card in stock I want
to buy. I'll keep looking and waiting.

Actually, that's not a bad price--Newegg is asking around 350 and only 3
Pricewatch vendors are under 300.
