Hey i hook my asus 8800gtx card up to my tv using a DVI cable. I get a
perfect picture and quality is great but one thing.. The size is just a
touch to large. like my desktop is showing up more than my tv can show.
my last card had a option of resizing your desktop for hd mode but this
doesn't have it. i got latest drivers and im stuck

Is this an aspect ratio problem with video's/movies or the desktop in
general?
If it's an aspect ratio problem i.e. your widescreen movies are getting
stretched to 4:3 then you are in the same boat as a lot of people since the
80 series drivers.

if it's just the desktop then I think you can tweak the aspect in the new
drivers. there has been talk of this in this group before but it's not
something I've had to deal with.

sounds like your TV is set to overscan. this is a pain in the ring for
digital connections, as basically it takes the signal being sent by the
output (in your case your PC) and then zooms in a small amount. typical
oversan is about 3%. TV's do this to block out any on-screen timing
markers or broadcast codes that are on some digital signals. I suggest
looking through your TV manual and see if you can turn off overscan. if
its a cheapie, you might be in a spot of bother.

the plus side is if you can, you'll get a better picture.

Does your LCD support 1:1 pixel mapping? Typically this would be 1360 * 768.
On my LCD panel connected via DVI to HDMI the Nvidia card auto-detects it,
but chooses something like 1080i or 720p by itself. I just changed the
resolution to 1360*768 and the desktop - and videos - fit perfectly as you
would expect. There is no question that driving the LCD at it's native
resolution will always give the best results, as its not having to upscale
(or downscale) the picture and generally the PC can do a better job of that.
BTW ffdshow can do a really good job of upscaling xvid, divx movies to the
higher resolution.

Hi
Thanks for the responces already. well for the first question it is the
desktop that is stretched out but its not by much. I know the tweak you
talk about for changing the size of the desktop, i used to do it all the
time but (i should of put this in first post) after i got Vista Ultimate
the option isn't there anymore.

For the second post i'll poke around in my tv setting and see if i can
find the overscan option to turn off and give it a try.

Thanks again for your help guys, i'll keep you up to date with my situ
