Tried 163.71 now:

1) They have removed 2xQ AA mode (I use this on my slow rig)
2) They have removed temprature monitor from the driver

Anyone know the best driver for 7600GS that still has 2xQ AA

It's still there, apparently, but 'hidden' a bit. Google the nvidia
related graphics newsgroups, it came up there recently.

For temperature, install nTune.

Patrick.

I read your thread on this subject and to directly answer: you must use
a third party app which unlocks hidden FSAA and other IQ options, which
were previously unhidden: nhancer, rivatuner, powerstrip, nvtweak,
nvtray, I think all of those (maybe not nvtray) will allow forcing FSAA
modes.

Regarding your issues with HL2 and FSAA, you have to understand that
there are several variables which might change when you force certain
things on or off. For example, never once have you mentioned what the
mipmipping levels were or anisotropic filtering levels. Vsync on? How
about triple buffering? All of these things will substantially affect
your FPS score, and unless you verify that every setting is the same,
but for the one you are changing, you really can't compared them. But,
let's pretend they are and go from there...

HL2's source engine has certain peculiarities, did you know there are
specific compatibility bits that should be set when fiddling with FSAA
and the source engine? It's "18" if that helps. nhancer can set all that
for you. Here's a link to tweak guides HL2 entry, very handy:

http://www.tweakguides.com/HL2_1.html

You shouldn't get used to 2xQ FSAA, it's very poor regardless of the
speed, you should try 2XFSAA with gamma correction and at least 4X Ansio
instead, just as fast on your hardware, plus much clearer !

Lastly, HDR is an IQ technique that makes whites whiter and brights
brighter. But dark stays dark. More color options for the designer,
however trying to get FSAA and HDR working together at the same time is
difficult if even possible on non geforce9 hardware. One or the other.

In the settings imported from the old driver they showed as "Custom"

For temperature, install nTune.

Yet another program, yet more memory and cpu waste :-)

Does the temperature failsafe for overheating work still?
Or is that removed from the standard driver as well :-)
(there are no setting for "notify if to hot" anymore)

All are on max :-) Have only played with the AA settings.
If not the scores couldn't me compared at all, right?

Well anyway. I'm quite pleased with 37-75 FPS so I'll stick with the
2xQ or 4x AA in the Nvidia control panel. The image look very good,
and I have tried to see differences when using the in-game setting,
but can't see any - and then I think it's worth the extra FPS :-)

Use 16x Ansio, that doesn't seem to affect the framerate at my system.
Also have disabled all the "optimized code" (actually saw glitches .-)

difficult if even possible on non geforce9 hardware. One or the other.

OK, havn't notices much difference (quality nor speed). Have it off.
