Should I upgrade my 5000 to XP

I was wondering if it would be worth the cost and effort. I'm planning on
hanging on to the machine maybe another year (at the most), or giving it to
someone who's going off to college.

ME is getting more troublesome every day.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

I have a 5002US. I upgraded the BIOS, and the video card to an ATI Radeon
VE and Installed a new CDR+DVD drive. I upgraded the CPU to an Athlon 1.1Ghz
I upgraded to XP a couple years ago and XP is much more stable than ME.
There should be no problem moving up to XP.
I recommend installing a fresh copy, though.

Gee, you seem to know what you're talking about! I have a 5BW220, so I
should be able to do some of the type of upgrades you have? So far I've
only taken my memory up to 319. Thanks.

XP upgrade should work great.Be sure you have at least 256MB of RAM, 512 is
better.

I've got a 5000 that I run Windows 2000 pro on. It has 640 MB of RAM,
PC133 is remarkably cheap these days, just shop around. If you are
planning on getting rid of this computer in a year or so you might
want to consider Win 2k. Personally I prefer it over XP, and I am
assuming (correct me if I am wrong here) it's probally cheaper than
XP. A home user will notice little difference between 2k and XP,
except for WMP 8 and the neat bubble gum GUI. Plus then you can
reinstall Windows when you give it away with no worries about
registration issues.

XP is by far the most stable OS that Windows has produced, been running it
for a year and a half
without a major problem, and very few minor ones that were much easier to
correct than other versions.
It is also far superior when it comes to installing and detecting new
hardware.Never tried ME,but XP is
a major improvement over 98,which was the worst OS I ever used.
