Driver question
I'm upgrading my old nvidia card to a 6800, I was using the latest nvidia
MCE drivers 72.14. Can I just plug in the new card and have the driver recognize it or do I need to remove and reinstall the driver? Thanks |

Most are under the impression that Nvidia's drivers are universal, but that only applies to the installer. When the drivers are installed, they detect your current card, and install optimized for that card. I've tested this many times before. Went from old TNT2 to GF2 to GF3 Ti, and to GF4 Ti. Each card swap caused problems with performance, and stability. Once I removed the driver, and did a fresh reinstall of the same version, the new card worked perfect. If your going from a 6xxx series card, it may not be necessary, but it is not a big deal to uninstall, and do a fresh reinstall just to make sure. |
