Nvidia FX5600 vs. ATI Radeon 9700 and 8x AGP?
I own a Geforce 4 TI4200 right now. In a month or two I'm going to
upgrade. The asking price for the Radeon 9800 and FX5900 are ridiculous so they are out of the question. Now, which is better card for the money, the FX 5600 or the Radeon 9700? It's basically to run next gen games like half life 2 and Doom 3, etc. Also, is it worth my while to upgrade my motherboard to one that supports 8x AGP? mine currently supports up to 4x. |
The difference between AGP 4x and 8x is minimal, what I would look at is the
performance versus value if those are the 2 cards you are considering. The 9700 is a faster card but costs more..., however the 5600 Ultra for 200 dollars (USD) is a very good deal. With the GF4/4200 however, I doubt you will notice much improvement with the upgrade, you may want to wait until PCI 2 or Express makes its debut early 2004 and get a video card based on it. (The 4200 still a damn good card for the games that are out there now). "Xeromus" wrote in message ... I own a Geforce 4 TI4200 right now. In a month or two I'm going to upgrade. I have a GF4 ti4200 128mb and I also have a FX5600 256mb. Comparing the two, in the same PC, the 4200 is the faster card, so forget the FX5600. I also have a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128 mb that beats the pants off of both the Nvidia cards. You can purchase a 9600 pro for about the same price as a FX 5600, or even less if you use Price Grabber, or Pricewatch to find one. |
