geforce fx go5200 supported resolution "not available" in Display Properties
My driver (5.7.6.4) supposedly supports 1920 x 1200. I also tried
5.7.7.9 which is supposed to support the resolution as well. However, when I attempt to choose the resolution in Display Properties-Settings, it simply doesn't show up. 1920 x 1440 and 2048 x 1536 are available, but 1920 x 1200 is just skipped. I'm attempting to extend my laptop desktop via the VGA output to an LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200. Why isn't this supported resolution showing up? How can I force it to appear? Thanks |

Download and install the latest video drivers. Your product supports this
driver. nVIDIA Windows XP/2000 32-bit Version: 81.98 http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html wrote in message oups.com... My driver (5.7.6.4) supposedly supports 1920 x 1200. geforce fx go5200 supported resolution "not available" in Display Properties
Thank you. However, I tried it and it actually doesn't support my
hardware. By the way, the two drivers I previously mentioned are *supposed* to support 1920 x 1200. Modes.txt lists it: 1920 x 1200 32 60 75 85 100 (entry in the "; Standard Modes" section) But in Display Properties, it goes from 1600 X 1200 straight to 1920 x 1440. It skips the resolution I need. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. |

I found these entries in NVTS.INF within the [nv_ClearRegistrySwitches]
section: HKR,, Disable19x12x32at60 HKR,, Disable16x12x32ge70 HKR,, Disable19x10x32ge70 Could one of them be impeding the selection of the resolution I require? Within the same file, I also found this entry in the [nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings] section: HKR,, NV_Modes, %REG_MULTI_SZ%, "{*}S 640x400=39;320x200 320x240 400x300 512x384=9;SHV 1920x1440x8,16=19;640x480 720x480 720x576 800x600 1024x768 1280x800 1280x1024 1400x1050 1440x900 1600x1200 1680x1050 1920x1200=39;1920x1440x32 2048x1536=9;" Again, the resolution 1920x1200 does show up in the list, suggesting that it is in fact supported, even though it isn't showing up. Any ideas? Thanks |

geforce fx go5200 supported resolution "not available" in Display Properties
Benjamin,
Thanks for your input. I actually already considered those two possibilities and don't believe either is the case. But there also is the probability that your notebook GPU simply can't do more than 1600x1200 on its external output. First, 1920x1440 and 2048x1536 both are available as selectable resolutions in Display Properties. If the GPU can do those resolutions, it should definitely be able to do 1920x1200 (a lower resolution). Widescreen resolutions (like 1680x1050 and IIRC also 1900x1200) only show up in the driver if there is a display connected that can use these resolutions. My LCD, (Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW) has a native resolution of 1920x1200; the display does support the res. Also, keep in mind that the two larger resolutions (1920x1440 and 2048x1536) are selectable when my display is connected even though the LCD *doesn't* support those two larger resolutions. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks |

Hi Benjamin,
If it's PnP monitor, it should use the monitors DDC infos. If not, change that to PnP monitor and try again. If the computer still allows you to go over the 1920x1200 then install the 2405FPW inf file. I had already tried doing both. Neither led to the native resolution showing up in Display Properties. I have found a solution though. But I am quite confused as to why it works. As I previously mentioned, the installed driver and the hardware are supposed to support 1920x1200, the .inf file and modes.txt says so. The installed Nvidia software allows the creation of custom resolutions. So obvioulsy, the very first thing I tried was to create the resolution my LCD needed (Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW). That *didn't* work. I would simply get a message "The custom resolution cannot be added." After failing to find another solution, I went back and tried to create another custom resolution, 1920x1201 32 bit 60 Hertz And that worked! My LCD recognizes 1920x1201 *as* 1920x1200. So I'm able to use my LCD with laptop and my immediate problem is solved. However I am quite confused... First, why doesn't the supported resolution show up in Display Properties-Settings (even though larger resolutions like 1920x1440 and 2048x1536 do show up ). Second, why would I be able to create a custom resolution of 1920x1201 but not 1920x1200? If anyone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate an explanation. |
