nVidia would like it to be. Microsoft would not like it to be. Guess who

That just helps in planning for new video cards. If XP won't run DX10,
there's not need to get a DX10 card. There should be plenty of bargain
high performance DX9 cards around this summer.

Unless you want the 5 to 10 times faster DX10 provides and are willing
to upgrade to Vista.

Are there benchmarks showing that?

At this point, there's no reason for me to upgrade to Vista. Nothing in
XP is broken.

5 to 10 times more overhead.

That seems to be the general consensus. Hell, I'm still on
Win2K and everything runs great (and no activation bs to put
up with).

Maybe that's true for specific DX10-streamlined features ie. a DX9 card
might be able to emulate DX10 features (as discussed in a Crysis preview
a while back) and would run 5-10 times slower doing it. But otherwise
you're either misguided or working for a very cheap viral marketing
company. :-)

I'll start thinking about Vista sometime after they release SP1...

(I'll probably still stick with XP at that time, though)

Now, if I could just get Linux to play nice with my monitor, I'd avoid
both of them all together...
