Upgrading question with Pentium lll
I have a Pentium lll, 550Mhz and I'm hoping to upgrade it to 933Mhz.
Is this as simple as I think it is, just unplug the 550, then plug in the 933, or are there other issues such as the number of pins on the back of each? Your help will be appreciated. Lewis. ***** |

Lewis. ***** You should give some more information about motherboard and CPU. If you don't know how to find info about your computer, download Siw (no install needed), and look it up. Look he http://www.snapfiles.com/get/siw.html I guess you have a motherboard with a slot1 and a front side bus 100MHz speed? In that case, make sure you have a CPU slot1 SECC2 100mHZ front bus speed processor. I have successfully upgraded my Presario 5686 with Compaq *Intel 440BX/ZX* motherboard to a PIII 100MHz fsb, 1000 Mhz Processor, using a S.E.C.C.2 chip. The BIOS is reporting it as a 600 Celeron, but other diagnostics is seeing it properly. And it was a huge improvement! I haven't been able to find similar information about other, comparable Pentium III Compaq motherboards, based on e.g. VIA. Asked here not long ago about Presario 5716, but got no answer. -- JP Loken |
