Hello once more.....

I'm just about to upgrade my computer, was thinking just about the video
card, in your opinion what should I upgrade. My PC is as follows;

Tower: Chieftec Dragon DX-01BD Midi Tower - Hi-Fi Black - (It looks like
this one but not sure if its Chieftec or Antec)

(Side is see through and it has 5 fans, 2 in the back, 2 in the front and
one in the side)

PSU: Atec True550 - 550W
Motherboard: ASUS P4P800 DELUXE
CPU: Pentium IV 2.4Ghz 800Mhz 512K cache socket 478
RAM: 1x512MB DDR400Mhz Samsung
V. Card: NVidia Geforce FX5200 128MB DDR TV Out
HDD: Seagate 120 GB 7.200 ST3120023A

Any comments are welcome and keep in mind that I like to play some games
here but am not an adictid player.

Geez, you sure went into overkill on the PSU! Kewl... I reckon an MSI
FX5900 / FX900 Ultra will do very nicely because they're fast, quite, and
prissy red which looks good in a case with a side window. If playing games
using the highest detail with smooth animation throughout is really
important to you then get a 6800(anything) along with a faster CPU like 3GHz
or above.

Tony.

You guys have too much money to burn.

I suggest adding a second DIMM of the same type, so that you would run in
dual-channel memory mode.
(It may be a good idea to buy a matched dual channel pair, but I've had good
luck with a couple of generic DIMMs purchased months apart.) Use the same
color DIMM sockets. (Whether this would have any significance outside of
benchmarks, I can't say. It seems somehow wrong to run a dual channel
mainboard in single-channel mode.)

Overclock the P4 2.4 to 250 MHz FSB (12*250 MHz, 3.0 GHz). You may need a
better CPU cooler than the stock Intel heat sink/fan to do this. Set the
memory frequency to 320 MHz, which will give 400 MHz (0.8X250X2). Be sure to
lock the AGP/PCI frequencies to 66/33 MHz. (I'm running a P4 2.6c at 13*250
MHz, 3.25 GHz, using a Thermalright SLK-900u copper heatsink with a
Thermaltake Smart Fan II.)

As for graphic cards, this article is ancient (nearly five months old). but
you may find it interesting:

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1552184,00.asp

"3D Price/Performance Shootout"

It doesn't include the latest cards (nVidia 6800 series, ATI Radeon X800
series), but they are expensive and are just now becoming readily available.
Avoid the Radeon 9800XT or the Geforce 5950, unless you can get them at
better prices than I've seen.

The Antec 550W supply ought to be, er, adequate.

Have fun.

Address altered. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
