Old made in Japan 4x CD-Rs OK at 24x ? by
larry moe 'n curly
Is it normal for 5-year-old Taiyo Yuden and Ricoh CD-R disk rated for
4x to burn reliabily at 24x ?
Nero must have misread or ignored their maximum speed ratings and
burned them at 24x (drive is Acer/BenQ 48x16x48), but they verify fine
and are readable even in an ancient CD-ROM drive that has...

16mb buffer hard drive in a laptop by
Dan Irwin
hi,
I'm about to upgrade the hard drive in my gateway m275 (1.4 pentium m,
256mb ram) and i was looking around and i saw that there are a few
drives on the market with 16mb buffers (mainly the toshiba MK5024GA).
i was wondering, does this realy help, or is it overkill?
thanks for the help,

best cloning method? by
[email protected]
I'm beyond aggravated. I've upgraged dozens of hard drives in the past
using the floppy to format the new drive and copy the original drive
over to the new one. Apparently the days of simplicity are over. I
tried using the Maxtor Maxblast software since the new drive is a
Maxtor 80g ata133...

Network File Server by
Bob
What is the minimum configuration for a Windows-based network file
server for a small SOHO LAN? Would you use Win2K or XP Pro? The idea
is to put disk resources in one machine for ease of maintenance and
reduced cost.

Overcoming 8GB BIOS limit by
Michael
Hello,
I have a P166 computer running Windows ME on a 40GB Western Digital
hard drive. The BIOS limits the system to seeing only 8GB of the
drive, so the whole partition is 8GB. My question is, is there any way
to make another partition in the other 32GB without reformatting the
entire drive? I...

Do you think the days of the hard drive is finally over? by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
So Seagate and other makers are getting ready to introduce 20 TB HDD's
to the market. According to Seagate, its fastest drives are capable of
sustained 250 MB/s transfers (if you believe them). It would take 30+
hours to entirely fill such a drive with data at maximum speed! Is that
too much...

What wears out in an HDD? by
Micky
What wears out in an HDD? Is it only the tone arm that breaks? or
can the bearings the platter rides on break??? Good watches use
jewels, rubies, as bearings; and cheap watches use metal. What do
hard drives use?
I googled but couldn't find much about this. Does the spindle really
ride on...

Is it me or are there many unreliable USB flash drives? by
Ant
Either I'm having bad luck or USB flash drives suck even with various
sizes (e.g., 512 MB to 32 GB), well known brand names (e.g., SanDisk),
and cheap/free ones (SP and Patriot ). They don't seems like they don't last longer than a year. I
keep them in my drawers, wallets, etc.
Some just...

How Move OS XP from Old to New HD? by
Nehmo Sergheyev
Windows XP Home (SP1)
I originally had and still have a 15 GB HD, using NTFS,

It shows up Computer Management...

Partitioning a 2tb hd for Windows 7 64 bit by
Daniel Prince
What is the best way to partition a 2tb hard drive for Windows 7 64
bit? I am thinking of a small "C" drive for Windows and programs
and a big "D" for all my data. Another possibility is a small "C"
drive for Windows. A medium sized "D" for my programs and a big "E"
for all my data.
Which do...

Poor raid 1 performance? by
Mark
Hi there,
I am planning on building a new computer system. Given the current cheap
price and massive capacity of hard drives, I am thinking of using a raid
array.
To me, raid 1 seems the ideal solution. Raid 1 greatly improves data
security, which is very important to me (and why I would never go...
