12v barrel connector/smoking modem by
Johnny Ruin
I just moved and when I plugged in my modem a thin stream of white
smoke started coming out of the modem. I quickly unplugged it. I
noticed that the power cable I'd plugged into the modem wasn't the
original that came with Arescom modem. I tried what I assume is the
correct power cable and it...

dean
Can anyone tell me if I have damaged anything he I plugged an Intel
E6850 3GHz Core2 duo into a D975XBX2 mother board. Would not even
system beep or bring up bios or post. I now realize these are
incompatible, as the processor is 1333MHz FSB and the board is max

137 Gbyte hard drive capacity barrier by
John Richards
I'm installing a new 200 Gbyte Seagate hard drive in a Windows XP SP2 PC
with an MSI K8T Neo series MB. The guide from Seagate warns about the 137
Gbyte addressing limitation of some Operating Systems and of some Mother
Boards. The OS should be OK but I can't seem to find anything in...

1394 front panel jack cable/jack by
[email protected]
A while back, I bought a kit to bring my USB ports to the front, in a
floppy bay. The one I bought (Koutech KW-F7771) also came with a 1394
jack, which I didn't connect.
I recently added a 1394 PCI adapder, which has one internal jack: a
standard 6-pin female, just like the external ones on the...

1394 not seeing HDD by
Jimmy
I installed another 1394 PCI card to supplement the jack on my sound card
but I can not see my HDD with this installation. It appears in DM as
installed in slot 4 while the one that works is shown in slot 1. Why can't
my HDD be detected with the new card?
Thanks.

15-pin VGA connectors by
Ablang
A 15-pin VGA connector (monitor) only uses 10 of the pins, so if the loose ones
are 4, 9, 11, 12, or 15, just pull them out and your monitor will connect with
no problem.

150x SD card vs class 6 SDHC SD card - speed comparison. by
zalek[_2_]
On my PocketPC PDA I was using Transcend 150x 4gb SD card. Recently I
replaced it by Transcend class 6 SDHC 8 gb card. My impression is that
my old 150x card is faster that the new class 6 SDHC card. Is there
any way to verify if my impression is true?
Thanks,
Zalek

15K rpm SCSI-disk by
Ronny Mandal
Hi.
I have a question.
I am really eager to buy a Seagate Cheetah 15K rmp disk for my workstation.
The only issue is that I've heard that these disks are not suitable for
frequently power on/off, i.e. turning off the computer once or twice+ a day.
They're more suitable to be left on, in e.g. a...

16-inch server, 19-inch rack by
robert.waters
Hello group,
I am purchasing my first rack (Dell 2410, for a Poweredge 1950 that I'm
also purchasing); this rack is 19 inches wide, and will hold the Dell
server nicely. However, I have an older Compaq Proliant DL360 that is
only 16 inches wide, and needs to be 'mounted' in the rack also.
Is...

164G Hitachi Deskstar Inside Enclosure by
Searcher7
I have a 164G Hitachi Deskstar (HDT722516DLA380) that is a SATA drive.
I used to have it plugged into the IDE motherboard of an HP 7955 via a
special adaptor.
The drive was working, but stopped operating, and I'm still not sure
if this was the result of a hardware or software problem.
I picked up...
