Have an old box using XP with 5 hard drives full of data that needs updating due to financial website issues and XP. Would it be possible to add Win 7 or 10 on an SSD in an PCIE slot to get a newer operating system and retain most of the integrity of the current box? The current MB is...

Dropped "Full"-DVI-I vs DVI-D-support-only for GT 1030 ispainfull/mistake. (Thx to convertors still interesting though) by [email protected]
Hello, Right now I am computing on a very nice LCD monitor which has VGA as best connection option. (I tried VGA to VGA cables and DVI to VGA cables both work nicely and after the monitor is told to "auto-adjust" the screen becomes crystal clear). The monitor does have some issues displaying...

is new memory incompatible? Why? by [email protected]
Hi, I've acquired 2x4GB new memory from Crucial as I found it to be compatible with my PC(ASUS CM6850) on crucial.com. It suggested `DDR3L-1600 UDIMM` and that is what I got (results slightly changed but still align:...

Switched out CPU by Flasherly[_2_]
Blows the doors off the Phenom II 2.6GHz for responsiveness, although all cores loaded encoding is strange and would seem somewhat slow by comparison. The reviews I read, however, did mention that it wasn't exactly a multi-core powerhouse;- it's strong point being up-front clock speed and unlocked...

HDMI in-ports vs HDMI out-ports (possibly related to damaged monitorHDMI OUT to OUT) by [email protected]
Here is my question: Why does the Denon A/V Receiver 1909 have a difference in labelling at the back ? At the back there are 4 HDMI ports, all of same connector type, all female or male... no difference. These all appear to be female. 3 ports are labelled as "in"... for example tv/dvd/hdp. 1...

Copieing 60.000 items from Windows Live Mail extreme performance degradation by [email protected]
Hello, My Windows Live Mail file disk image has become full (4 gigabytes). I am now in the process of copieing these files over to a new file disk image of 8 gigabytes. (I am also playing the Starwars Soundtrack at the same and buffering is at 30.000 milliseconds, so don't think that has much to...

another 1920x1200 LCD problem by [email protected]
I had a Samsung 2443 sitting in a cupboard for ages. I plugged it in to a laptop using VGA cable, and screen is blank. If I shine a torch onto the screen, I can see the image, meaning the backlight is shirking its duty. However, if cable unplugged, you get the moving box telling you there is no...

Funny - Spectre 32" Monitor by Flasherly[_2_]
Walmart online, pickup at the nearest store. Walmart advertised it on sale for $79. Walmart really, really needs to sell it for $35, but no one's interested, and plenty can't wait to buy one. I have a theory: Spectre chips the monitor to fail at 363 days. A Spectre warranty is 364 days.

Something is scanning my system, probably spyware in Firefox. by [email protected]
It happens from system process. It reads DLLS and all kinds of other crap it has no busy reading this. 192 kb/sec per file... it's quite taxing on my system and quite annoying. My best guess it's Firefox secretly scanning installed programs ?! Bye, Skybuck.

Sandy Bridge SATA degradation flaw by [email protected]
The 67 chipsets SATA (3 Gbps) ports were supposed to fail over time. I still have several PCs with 67 chipsets. I don't know what stepping they are (old or fixed). So how to tell? Would plugging in an SSD and doing a large file benchmark diagnose a sickly chipset?

spdif pins by [email protected]
Somehow I can't see original message on google groups. My question is simply about pins in this case 1 pin. Is 1 pin connect to the wire or two ? Usually there is a plus and minus when it comes to eletricity/electronics. Looking at the cables there seems to be 1 pin and then something circular.

USB to VGA/DVI adapters - ever used one? by [email protected]
I have seen them with USB3, then I came across one with USB2! Must be awfully slow. I wonder what you would use it for. One place I worked had a cluster with a chilled water heat exchanger stuck directly behind the rack, so it would have been not feasible to plug in a DVI connector if techie wanted...

Microsoft Terminal by Flasherly[_2_]
