BIOS Defaults by Jack Gillis
Every setup program I've seen has a selection to Restore Factory Defaults or something like that. Maybe even Optimum Defaults. I'm curious about one aspect of that. When the CMOS battery goes dead and you replace it, are the defaults still available? I would think so but am just...

BIOS does not know when to select onboard/offboard graphics by [email protected]
I just had occasion to experiment with a new Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2HP (AMD 780G/ AMD SB700) motherboard. To my surprise the board video would not come up with a VGA plugged into the onboard/internal video, and I had to insert an offboard/ external video card (ge7200gs) in order to get into BIOS...

BIOS flash for Sempron on M7NCG-400 by Zotin Khuma
For some reason I am temporarily unable to enter the Biostar website, but I need to know if they have a BIOS update for their M7NCG-400 motherboard so that it will properly recognize a Sempron. A friend's Athlon XP 2000+ died and as I can't get an XP, I tried a Sempron 2400+. It works fine, but at...

BIOS Flash mapping by Alfie Noakes
In the past I've done lots of embedded flash programming at work, so decided to have a muck about with the flash BIOS in an old Pentium II I've got. The flash is a 1 Mbit (128k x 8) device and I can see a hunk of it in memory at segment F000, but I can't find the other 64K (it's not at E000),...

I went to the TYAN website and got what I think are the correct files to flash my bios (2390w108.bin, and flashv73.exe). The problem now is that I'm having trouble with a bootable disk. I thought I made one correctly, but when I try to boot with the disk in, it says there's an "I/O error". How do I...

BIOS forgets settings when disconnected from mains by Paul[_24_]
I've got an old (built approximately four years ago) Shuttle SN45G which I've just booted up after it being left in storage for a few months. On the first boot I found that all the BIOS settings had been erased/forgotten, so I reconfigured them all and everything worked fine. However, if I power...
