Connecting to 2.5 SAS/SATA on Dell T7600 by W[_3_]
The Dell T7600 has four hotswap 3.5" bays, and what appear to be four hotswap 2.5" bays. My Dell 710P controller appears to have one of its two minisas ports wired to the four 3.5" drives. How do we wire up the 2.5" drives to the other port on the 710P? I don't see a way to take off...

How to Use UEFI With Dell T7600 by W[_3_]
I'm about to install Windows 7 64-bit to a Dell T7600, and for the first time I am dealing with this new replacement for BIOS named UEFI. What a mess. It looks to me like this is a feature that doesn't quite work. The OS support for this feature is poor. The implementation in firmware...

Displayport to HDMI Adapter for nVidia Quadro 5000 by W[_3_]
I have a Dell T7600 with a Quadro 5000. I need to attach the first DisplayPort to an HDMI port on a TV monitor running 1920x1080P. I have many computers attached to the same TV and those work fine with digital display connections at 1920x1080, connected by HDMI. With the Quadro, the preboot...

Dell 930S Screen aspect ratio? by Jeff Wisnia
After reinstalling WindowsXP into my virus ravaged 930S and getting almost everything I need running fine again I noticed that the aspect ratio of the screen display is a little off and things look stretched horizontally a bit. I can live with it if I have to, but it wasn't that way before. I...

XPS-18 for entertainment by David Arnstein[_2_]
I am thinking about getting an XPS 18 Touch for use as an entertainment device. Mainly, that means DVDs. If I find a streaming service I like (Netflix, Amazon Prime, ...) I would add that to the mix later. I would prefer the cheap model, which has an Intel Core I3 processor. I would add the...

Need Driver for Wireless Card by Jeff Wisnia
I've got an Inspiron 530S with a wireless card in it which attaches through a plugged in cable to a round antenna. I picked up a terrible virus last week and had to reinstall Windows XP in the computer, which made a lot of drivers disappear. The little wireless card in the Dell has a label on...

SSD - is it ok to use in XP laptop by ps56k[_3_]
A friend has a Dell M1210 laptop running XP - works great. He wants to expand his disk space, and bought a SSD to replace the normal spinning disk. Both are SATA. However, in browsing around, he has read several articles about probs with XP and SSD. What kind of problems might there be ?

Backup Server by No Name
My HP MediaSmart server seems to be dead. Nobody seems to make a Windows Home Server box anymore. Would the PowerEdge T20 be a good box to put Windows Home Server on? It is not listed as a supported OS. Alternatively, is there a NAS solution that anyone

BSOD by Ron Hardin
The blue screen of death would be a lot more useful if it turned on the display, in cases where the display is off when the bsod is encountered. Otherwise all you know is that it stopped. -- On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk.

Vostro 1520 s wireless crapout? by Ron Hardin
Two of our Vostro 1520s taken from 6 months of mothballing have the same failure, apparently that the 1394 access to wirelss hangs the system pretty quickly. They work okay with wireless off. Is there some BIOS battery failure that might lead to this? The odds of two machines having the same...

XP Update by Ron Hardin
I thought I'd update XP on an Inspiron 2200 since I'd just turned it off and on. Update has been grinding away for an hour and a half so far, computing what's needed. I recognize the syndrome. It's a bad sort algorithm, and elementary programming mistake. Go down a list and if you find two...

Backup pgm to clone disk by ps56k[_3_]
I have used Acronis on my XP machines for years to clone disks - to migrate to larger disks. I'm lucky to have Dell laptops with modular bays that can handle a hard drive bay module vs external USB drive. Well - our latest Win7 64-bit Dell Latitude E6400 laptop doesn't have any modular bays - but...
