2.0 GHz Northwood: Compatible with the D845PT? by aether
Have some spare parts, and was curious. Reading the specs., the D845PT supports up to 2.0 GHz. However, since the 2.0 GHz was a leap to 512k cache from 256k, I was wondering if this motherboard (D845PT) will work with the Northwood 2.0 GHz CPU.

Hello, I need to get a 2.66 GHz Xeon 533 MHz with D1 stepping. The sSpec for these is SL6VM or SL6YP depending on manufacture run. How do you find the stepping marked on the chip itself or the box? In other words, where is this sStep information? Thank you to anyone who responds :))

2.8Ghz 533FSB Overclocking by v56k
Hi Guys - Just purchased a GA-8IHXP with a 2.8Ghz PIV (533FSB) - was wondering what sort of overclocking I can get with this combination? I'm a newbie to overclocking really (only ever dabbled with FSB overclocking in the past) so any stats on what to set Vcore, FSB and Multiplier to would be...

24-pin Power Supplies: What's going on? by aether
Why aren't retailers specifying whether the power supply is 24-pin or not? Check out newegg.com; there's no way to tell. I've gone to multiple online stores, and they simply don't list it. I'd like to find a list of which power supplies are ATX 2.0 (24-pin). As of now, I can only guess, or attempt...

Intel D850MV mobo I've been tinkering with installing a new hdd and in the course of things. Following a successfull boot, I heard 3 one second beeps on shutdown. After that I hear those beeps when I try to boot and of course no boot occurs. Intel's pages tell me those 3 beeps mean I have a...

3.0 800mhz boxed fan blowing inwards?!? by Sylvester Cat
Alright, I purchased a retail boxed 3.0 HT 800mhz bus P4 recently. The (built-in?) fan on the heatsink is blowing into the heatsink and really struggling to get air moving and is whining as a result of this. It's very annoying. I have tried plugging the fan into the different fan headers on my...

3.06 @ 533 or 3.00 @ 800 by istman
Hello all... I currently have an ASUS P4PE MB with a P4 2.53Gz at 533FSB. The motherboard supports HT but not 800 FSB. There has been a price drop on the 3.06/533 which has made it affordable for me. Since my MB already supports it I thought it to be the logical solution. But, would there be a...

3.2 GHz HT system now suddenly 1.6 GHz on boot-up? Fried processor? by John Here
Before I approach Intel support, I wonder if anyone here has any ideas. This morning, on boot up, my 3.2 GHz HT PC ran noticeably slower. Using SciSoft Sandra, I did a benchmark, and noticed that it said my PC was a 1.6 GHz system, and not 3.2 - weird? So I booted up and sure enough; on boot-up...

32 or 64 bit XEON on the same server? by HS
I've bought this server: IBM eServer xSeries 236 with two XEON. On the IBM site, it seems that the server supports only 32-bit processors with Intel EM64T enhancement. On the Intel site, the two processors (one with S-Spec: SL7ZE and Core Stepping: N-0 , and one with S-Spec: SL8P5 and...

I am wondering whether I can get gcc or as (or any other compiler or assembler) to compile a C program in ILP32 model, but to use amd64 instructions that will work even in the 64-bit/long mode mode. The default operand size when in long mode is 32 bits. The default address size is 64 bits but, at...
