A8N-E: drive limit? by
Percival P. Cassidy
I just re-purposed an old machine with the Asus A8N-E for use as a DIY
Network Attached Storage device. I started with four old IDE drives that
I had already, and proved that the thing worked -- booting FreeNAS
8.0.1RC1 from a USB thumb drive. I then purchased four SATA drives,
intending to...

A8N-E + 4GB RAM by
Percival P. Cassidy[_2_]
I just re-purposed an old machine with the Asus A8N-E for use as a DIY
Network Attached Storage device. I upped the memory to 4GB of DDR400 ECC
RAM (four identical modules), but now POST reports not only that it's
running at 333 but also that it's now single-channel rather than...

P4C800-e deluxe: Win7 install not recognizing drives by
Eric[_18_]
Bad luck so far trying to install Win7-32bit to a system that uses the
P4C800-e Deluxe. General message is that the hardware (SATA
controller, I presume) does not support booting to the drive.
Is there a reliable multi-port SATA card that would help? 4-port would
be good. 8-port even better. Not...

Good MB and CPU for music? by
Eric[_18_]
I'm considering moving up from my current P5K-E. Can anyone recommend
a motherboard with a lot of slots that would support at least 4GB,
preferably more. Not looking to go over the top with a high-$ system,
but I need Multi-core CPU power for running music recording software.

Weird Problem with Microphone by
Rhino[_3_]
I'm having a weird problem with microphones on my desktop PC.
I'm simply trying to confirm that two different microphones that I own still
work and will work successfully in another computer. When I plug each
microphone into my Tascam 4-track recorder, they work fine. However, when I
plug them...

Asus A8v-mx motherboard with Samsung HD502HJ hard disk by

Hi guys,
Can someone tell me why I should be having any trouble with the above
combination:
the user guide says the motherboard supports ultraDMA up to 133
(udma06).
I have no trouble with 20Gb and 120Gb hard disks on this motherboard,
but when I install a Samsung HD502HJ on SATA1, Windows XP...

Modern, Inexpensive Mainboard by
[email protected]
One of my systems has gotten too slow to run antivirus and do anything
else. Since the max memory on that board is 512K, and the CPU is 800
MHz, I guess it's time to upgrade.
I already have an Antec 900 case and a Thermaltake TR2 RX 500W ATX 2.2
power supply which should be reusable. The current...

Thanks all in alt.comp.hardware, especially Paul and Larry, for the

So far that is a success in that now the BIOS and POST screens show
