what is the best mobo for socket 939? by
quasar
Hi, I want to get a new system: mobo/cpu/ram. I am thinking socket 939. I am
still deciding what system to get as a result of my old system dying
(a7v133/1ghzTbird). Asus A8V Deluxe? Abit A8V? Are there even reviews
comparing the 2 mobos side-by-side?
I am currently using a backup system so I have...

A64-m stuck at 1.45v by
Jason Cothran
I have a mobile Athlon 64 3200+ in an eMachines m6809 notebook. This machine
is booting the voltage to 1.45v instead of the 1.4 it is supposed to. FWIW,
I am running Windows XP pro when I notice this. Unfortunately there are no
64-bit drivers for the wireless NIC yet. This didn't used to be a...

Newbie question about Athlons by
Union Aerospace Corps.
Hi all AMD users!
All AMD chips are labelled as NNNN+ where NNNN is a four digit number.
Say if it's labelled as 2800+ does that mean it's a Pentium 4 equivalent of
a 2.8GHz chip? Surely, the 2800+ one doesn't even come near to 2.8GHz if you
look at the frequency which is at about 2GHz.
Also...

Need help controlling clock speed in Mandrake 10.0 AMD64 (Cool & Quiet) by
General Schvantzkoph
Is there any way to control the CPU clock speed of the Athlon64 in
Mandrake 10.0 AMD64 version? If the system comes up from a cold boot the
CPU is in Cool and Quiet mode (897MHz) which is where it stays no matter
what the load. It's nice and quiet but the performance isn't great. I've
been able to...

Another little problem with my chaintech board by
Carlo Razzeto
One thing I've never gotten working thus far is the digidoc LCD display. I
know it's supposed to display my CPU temp and all POST codes, but I can't
get anything to show up on it. Since I had the Digidoc software installed I
can only guess I used the wrong cable to connect it to the system......

PC Mall is selling an Athlon64 system for $1,199 (Cybertron #443255 page 75)
Has anyone here purchased this PC or do you all build your own systems?
Is it any good? Who manufactures the motherboard? I called the 800 number to
ask
but the lady who answered didn't know what a motherboard...

AMD 64 3200 - Idling at 65 degress by

Hi all,
Another temperature related question. Reading back through this group
I can see there has been much discussion regarding this. Anyway I
have an AMD 64 3200 with a Gigabyte K8NS Pro motherboard and the CPU
runs at 60-65 degrees when nothing (apart from windows) is running.
Give the CPU...

Ed, I feel so silly. I told you that the Chaintech VNF3-250 motherboard
didn't support Cool n Quiet. That is what the tech support guy at Chaintech
told me.
However, I just found Cool N Quiet in the BIOS under Power Options (or some
such) This is new to the BIOS dated 7/29/2004 that I posted...

Athlon 64 questions by
Mike B
My new athlon XP system just got fried..
I have some questions. I've heard the Athlon64 3200+ can beat a P4 3.2 EE in
most tests. Is this true, and is there any reason why one would buy the P4
over the A64 other than bias?
Also, i'm a bit confused now.. I see A64 3200+ listed at pricewatch.....

Socket 754 on its way out? by
Cyde Weys
It seems to me like socket 754 is on its way out, to be replaced by
sockets 939/940. From what I've read it is already at the limit of
its capabilities, while sockets 939/940 have a lot more potential
left. I was considering upgrading my system to a 64-bit processor,
but it doesn't seem like 754...

939 Motherboards with ECC by
General Schvantzkoph
Do any of the 939 pin motherboards support ECC?. The 939 pin A64 supports
ECC but none of the motherboards seem to mention it and the Crucial site
says no ECC for the MSI and Gigabyte boards. I don't see why they would
have left an important feature like ECC off since it's essentially free.
Is...

Socket A & 754 Sempron caution. by
Wes Newell
I don't know if this is well known or not but AMD has used different
criteria in giving the Sempron line of cpu's its PR numbers. So don't
buy a Sempron 3100+ expecting it to be faster than an Athlon 64 3000+.
Because it's nowhere close to as fast. AMD ommitted a bunch of the
benchmarks used for...
