Anyone tried installing the 64-bit version of Windows 7 yet? by
Darren Garrison
I tried installing the 64-bit version of Beta 1 of Windows 7-- got 3/4 of the
way through setup, it told me that Windows could not be installed on this
hardware, exited. No details given on what was incompatible. Had to restore XP
from a Ghost backup. CPU is Athlon X2 5050e, motherboard is...

Howdy all, I have been considering buying a copy of winxp 64. I am
currently running an FX-51 processor with 2 Raptor 36 GB HDs in a RAID 0
array (Winxp pro). I am considering creating a dual boot system with winxp
pro on one HD and winxp 64 on the other. I really only want to be able to

Opteron - single dual core vs two single cores by
CharlesBlackstone
Hi, I'm about to buy a workstation, and wonder what the functional
difference would be between getting a machine with two single-core
processors, and a machine with one dual-core processor? Is it
essentially the same thing, or are the two single-cores more
independent in terms of function, memory...

64 bit by
Richard
Microsoft has suggested that only a 64 bit processor will run HD DVD's on
Vista. I assume that the Dual Core Intel piece is 32 bit and the Dual Core 2
is a 64 bit piece. Will Vista be a dual 32/64 bit OS or will a high cost and
poorly supported 64 bit version be in the pipeline?
Richard.

Any motherboards supporting x2, crossfire and 8 rear usb ports? by
Boe
Hello,
I'm thinking about building a new system in about 1 month. I'd like a good
motherboard that can support x2 939, crossfire, has 8 rear usb ports and
preferably has 2 gigabit nics on board. I see many that have 4 front and 4
rear usb but I'd like one with 8 usb rear and the only systems...

AMD - way to go? by
Jason Backshall
Probably the wrong place to be asking for an unbiased answer, I'll give it a
go anyway.
In the past, I've always been an Intel fan. Can't quite put my finger on the
reason why, however they've just always 'felt' faster. I did make the move
to an Athlon 1700+ at one stage and enjoyed it...

Upgrading want Advice by
newsreader
Want a 939 board unsure of brand yet. Appropriate CPU and ram. Used to run
Intel 2.8, so I am looking at that level or higher. Do I understand that the
N350 boards are being replaced with N4 boards?
Differences?

Best Overclocking Winchester CPU - please comment by
PB
As a follow up to an earlier question, what experiences have the folks
had with overclocking the various speeds of the 90nm Winchester AMD 64
CPU? The most readily available parts are the 3000, 3200 and 3500 models.
Several websites I have reviewed show good performance for the 3200+,
but I would...

Dramas with Giga K8VT800 board and AMD64 2800+ by
bloke
Hi All!
This is my first foray into PCs, having been a Mac user for a long time but
tired of paying big prices for hardware :-)
Anyway, on the *advice* of others I purchased a AMD64 2800+ CPU matched with
a Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 motherboard. For two days the machine ran sweet, then
suddenly...

Hey peeps, This is NOT an OS NG by
Early 2 Riz
If you want to discuss operating systems, you should put OT: in the subject
line, or find the appropriate NG, as this is not an OS newsgroup. It is a
hardware newsgroup. This is: alt.comp.HARDWARE.amd.x86-64
Thank you
