AMD 64 X2 5000+ and 64 Bit OS by
Harold A Climer
I am not an expert on computer architecture by any means. I have
installed a new hard drive or graphics card several times.
What the difference between the 64 on my AMD 64 X2 5000+ CPU in my
HP computer and XP64 or Vista64( If there is such a thing). How do I
tell if I have a 32 bit OS or a...

IBM Takeover of AMD Speculations Arise
Speculations that microchip maker AMD might be bought by IBM surfaced
the last couple of days, rising AMD's stock shares by 8% yesterday.
Neither parties have commented on the rumour, which however proved to
be enough to offer AMD's share a a significant...

Athlon 64 CPU temp by
[email protected]
Hi,
I just built a system with an Athlon 64 3500+ socket AM2 (ECS C51GM-M
1.0 motherboard), and I'm finding that the CPU temp is running very
high under heavy loads. I have cool n quiet enabled, and under no load
the CPU temp is about 46C and the case is about 40C. The ACPI temp
seems to run...

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 Upgrade by
RDN
Ordered a new AMD Athlon 64 fx-55 (San Diego) today
In July I built a A64 3500 (venice)
on an Asus A8N-E ultra mobo
with only 512Mb ( I ran out of cash)
I had to jump on the Newegg.com deal. ( A64 fx-55 and
Seagate HD 250Mb SATA combo for $199 with shipping)
With this CPU I'll go from 2.2Mhz to...

DDR3 on the way by
VanShania
Maximum PC says DDR3 is on the way next summer, which will require new
motherboard and ram again. My opinion is it won't be mainstream in MBs or
RAM till 2008. I would say anyone with a 939 system stay put till then.
Flash the bios and put a 4200 dual core in, be happy.

Stock cpu fan and heatsink on AMD Athlon dual-core x64 by
Bob Fry
I have a homebuilt pc with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ (AM2
socket), cooled by the stock heatsink and fan that comes with the cpu.
The stock fan has no mobo controlled speed, though the mobo supports
such (Abit NF-M2 nView). Though it doesn't run hot at all, I'd like
to replace just the...

New System Purchase Question by
Matt Silberstein
I am buying a new computer and really want an AMD. I will be doing
graphics and software dev and other stuff. I know that dual core will
be good for me. My problem is with the system maker, who do I go to?
Alienware looks great, but they optimize for games players and are
quite expensive (I know...

x2: Dual core or FX? by
Angie
Hi all,
Have had my old Athlon 1900+ for over 3 years now and been very happy with
it but I think it's getting a little tired. Looking at the new stuff
avaiable, was wondering if folks have practical experiences and/or
suggestion to share.
I've looked at the x2 3800+, 4400+, 4800+ and FX-57...

3200+ Speed and Cache by
Derek Baker
I seem to have been out of the loop: when did the 3200+ become 2.2Ghz and
512KB, as here
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-416&depa=0
for example, rather than 2.0Ghz and 1024KB?
Thanks

AMD Nomenclature? by
Adjacent
OK, I can't find it on AMD's website, but someone has to know. I understand
that the higher numbers i.e. 2800, 3000, 3200, etc. are increasingly better,
but what does it mean. I see that most of these have the same clockspeeds,
but the higher numbers (2800,3200...) cost more, so they must be...

Industry conversion to 64Bit and WOW64 by
HMS Beagle
Niether Microsoft, AMD, nor Intel are coming clean out to the public
about what the conversion to 64bit architecture really entails for
backward compatibility and performance degredation of existing
applications.
Backward compatibility has been the bane of CPU designers for the last
20 years. In...

linux 64bit OS again by
Don McCarter
If anyone is interested in a 64bit OS this one works for me.
I installed Fedora Core2 on my AMD64 machine, with a little tweaking.
The FC2 programs harddrive format messed up the
drive so I had to reformat and reinstall WinXP64.
I then booted to a Fedora Core1 disk and ran the install
until the HD...

Wayne @ W.
I just purchased mine 3 weeks ago, and it just became available 4 weeks ago
(Chaintech VNF3-250). I don't want to see my investment go the way of the
dinosaur in less than a year?
thank you,
