for those wondering about dual core bios by
dead kitty
Last night I put together
4400+
ABit Fatal1ty SLI
4GB DDR400 Extreme Performance
MSI 6800 PCI-E16
and it is FAST (much faster than my 3200+ 1M/754). The BIOS had not been
updated for dual core so the ABit only saw one cpu that it listed as "AMD
Hammer Family - Model Unknown", but flashing went...

Building 2P Opteron 1U by
Ted Carter
Hi all -
I'd like to build a 2-processor opteron server and am getting hung-up on
choosing parts. I'd like to avoid the barebones servers that Tyan and
others put together to save on cost. Here are my requirements:
(1) Hot-swap SATA
(2) Opteron 852s, and dual-core support
(3) DDR400
(4) USB2
(5)...

AMD WON'T ADMIT PROBLEM WITH SEMPRON 2400 by
Sillysam
I bought a system from a distributor. First the motherboard wouldn't make
any cdrom drive work, whether new or used or cdrom or cdrw. Any hard drive
would work on this motherboard.
Changed ram
Changed harddrives
Changed cables
changed cd drives.
Nothing would make the motherboard make a cdrom work.

AMD64 3400 by
[email protected]
Hi all.
I just bought an AMD64 3400 CPU. So, I installed SUSE and it all works
great. However, on bootup the BIOS says that the CPU is only 2400 MHZ.
Also, in Suse, the sysmonitor shows the MHZ at 2403.
The only thing that displays my CPU speed as 3400 is MySQL Admin
Console.
Have I been...

CPU and Motherboard Recommendations Wanted by
Arthur Lipscomb
I'm building a system and am looking for some advice. I'm torn between a
system with an Athlon 64 3400 but with integrated video or one an Athlon 64
2800 processor and a ATI All in Wonder 9600 video card.
What's the performance difference between a 2800 and 3400? Is it
noticeable?
What's the...

ASUS A8N-E by
John Straumann
Hi all:
I am building my first AMD machine and have an ASUS A8N-E MOBO and an Athlon
processor. I have heard the Asus board is very finicky about power and I
have an Antec SL400 supply. Does anyone know if this supply will be good for
this board? In the board docs it says "ATX Power supply (with...

motherboard for 2-way or 4-way AMD 64 X2 by
Arno
Hello,
I am looking for a good and not too pricey motherboard to run 2 or 4
AMD 64 X2 (or dual-core Opterons, if AMD 64 is not an option). The goal
is to have 4 or 8 actual processors in a desktop system. Any
suggestions?
Thanks,
Arno

Athlon 64 purchase advice/recommendation from all you gurus, please? by
ChowBoy
I just found this forum and I sure am glad. I could use some help from
you experienced AMD users, if you would.
Been running an XP 1800+ system for about 5 years. The processor has
been getting hot for the past few months and finally gave up the ghost
a few days ago, after running practically 24/7...

I was hovering on the purchase button for Battlefield2 and noticed that
it says Windows XP (32-bit) in the system requirements. Does anyone

Using PC2100 DDR on an A64? by
Yousuf Khan
A friend has bought a new A64 3000+ and a Socket 939 MSI board. He was
told he needed to upgrade to PC3200 ram by the salesman even though he
had some older PC2100 ram from his current system which he had wanted to
transfer. Salesman said it'll complain. I was saying sure it'll be a
performance...

ECS motherboards by
Steven Liburd
I'm looking into upgrading my system, on the cheap. I've seen an ECS
nForce4, Socket 939 board (combo with an Athlon 64 3000+, 256Meg).
1) Is ECS not worth buying?
2) Is 'dual channel' a function of the board, or the RAM, or both?
I'm trying to go cheap, but I at least want to get what I'm...

DDR2 for 64 bit solution? by

My friend was building a new 64-bit rig and he wanted to know what ram to
use. I said he probably needed ddr2, but to my surprise I can't find a
single board that supports it. Are there any 64-bit chipsets that support
ddr 2 yet? If no, when are they coming as I really haven't heard...

Temp of Athlon64 3000+ in ASUS A8N-E by
John Saunders
Hi,
I just purchased an Athlon 64 3000+ Venice core and it is
running in an ASUS A8N-E with the boxed cooler installed.
ASUS Probe gives me a CPU temp of 28C (ambient is 17C).
The "MB temp" is reported as 31C which is higher than the
CPU! This is without CnQ, the CPU is operating at full
spec. A...

I know that Venice and San Diego are newer than the Winchester cores,
but when you go to buy one on the web, they are listed as 3000+, 3200+
etc.
How can you tell which core you are getting?

AMD for numerics - hype or not? by
alex goldman
AMD marks its processors with with numbers like 4000+ in addition to the
clock rate. I believe the number is supposed to mean how fast it is
relative to Intel chips, i.e. a 3200+ AMD chip should be as fast as a
3.2Ghz P4.
I was wondering if this is true for numerics, especially its holy...
