How to buy a San Diego 3700+ rev E6 by
[email protected]
I'm interested in building a new system with an Asus A8N-SLI Premium
motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego. Unfortunately, the
Asus site lists only the 3700+ rev E6 (not E4) as being supported. How
can I buy an E6? I called newegg tech support, and they couldn't tell
me what rev...

Athlon 64 4000+ Clawhammer or San Diego??? by
MaadDog
I am looking to upgrade to the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ processor. However,
I see there are 2 versions of it, the Clawhammer and San Diego. They
appear to be identical with regard to specs. Both socket 939, but the
Clawhammer about $35.00 more. Anyone know the difference?
Recomendations?
Thanks

laptop recommendation by
Joe
I'm looking to buy a laptop that will get me through graduate school the
next few years. My main goal is to have a laptop that will run Windows Vista
and future 64 Bit OS. Since Intel doesn't have a chip that runs both 32 and
64, it's ruled out. Since I want to run Windows Vista, dedicated...

Basic build question by
Matt Silberstein
I have not built a PC for several years. Thermal paste, for example,
is new to me. Is there a good (on-line preferred) source to catch me
up on what to do and care about? I really don't know why I have
decided to do this again, but I might as well do it right.
TIA

Xmas Prices on 754 hysterical by
scrooge mcduck
I've been keeping an eye on the prices of 754 chips at newegg. They
had a good deal around thanksgiving on the 3700 + a motherboard for
about $200. Since then they've dropped the freebie motherboard and
upped the price of the 3700 to about $295. Talk about a sorry ****ing
deal. You're better off...

Hi Everyone,
I have read as much as I possibly can, and tried to draw my own
conclusions. Please let me know if I am making them correctly before I make
this purchase. This is my first newsgroup entry, apologies if it is not to
spec:
Photoshop CS2 seems to love more Ghz. Photoshop CS2 is...

Defective AMD 4200+ X2 CPU ?? - Catastrophically Overheating by
John Smith
Note: The Boxed Retail AMD processor looked OK from the outside, but the
green packing material housing the fan and heat sink was badly mangled and
almost disintegrated. The CPU itself was secure in it plastic cover.
I built a lightly loaded system with the following:

Hi
I was stupid enough to buy this chip to upgrade my computer. Now after 3

success (utter ****ing miserable failure). So far I have had one successful

Thermal protection by
XModem
I read that the Intel chips now have thermal protection, ie, they will
shut down if the die temperature reaches a fixed point, as would happen if the
heatsink fell off, etc.
Do any AMD chips feature thermal protection now?
