System rebuild advise by
WooHoo2You
Currently I am running:
Athlon 3200+ 64
2x512 ram
The mother board in my current rig tops out at a 3400+ and one gig of ram, I
am leaning toward getting a new Asus A8N-SLI modo, is the deluxe worth the
extra cash. (I mostly play 3d games on my PC)
What I would like to avoid is my new setup...

Grrrr Cheap ass AMD clip. by
Wes Newell
Waws cleaning inside the case tonight and the AMD cooler which only
latches on one nub on each end almost fell off in my hand. The middle nub
of the HS retainer broke. Now the HS retainer has 3 nubs but AMD cooler
only used one to hold the HS in place. Just ****es me off. Luckily I had a
spare $6...

AM2 vs. Socket 939 by
Merrill P. L. Worthington
Have been taking a look at the AM2 processors. What's the big deal? Is
there a major performance jump for AM2 chips? Clock speeds are roughly
the same. Architecture isn't that much different. DDR2 is no
advantage, is it?

Processor advice please by
Alistair
Hi all,
I'm just about to replace my aging XP1600 system with a nice shiny new
shuttle...but...I've not been paying much attention to the processor market
and now it's all gone confusing!!
I've been using AMDs even since my first K5/400 back in the early 90s so I
plan to stick with them.
now...

Core 2 Duo Performance by
bards1888
Well, the reviews have started to arrive, it looks like even the
'slower' E6600 (2.4 ghz 4mb cache) is similar in performance to the
FX-62. What will AMD do now, give the huge price performace disparity ?
Even if they dropped the price on the FX-62 to match the E6600 I
wouldn't buy one.
Great...

If you were to rate motherboards.... by
Rich
....say 6 brands from best to worse, what would the list look like? Not
individual boards, but overall brand ratings themselves. I've only
ever used Asus and Soyo boards but I'd be interested
in people's opinions.

AMD warranty waiting time. by
Venom
I think this question relates to Australia only but it would be good to see
if it might be a worldwide thing with AMD and the speed of their warranty.
This bit of info comes by way of the warranty returns fellow at my favourite
computer spare parts store who is handling my warranty claim. This...

AMD 64 3200 - Idling at 65 degress by
Jason
Hi all,
Another temperature related question. Reading back through this group
I can see there has been much discussion regarding this. Anyway I
have an AMD 64 3200 with a Gigabyte K8NS Pro motherboard and the CPU
runs at 60-65 degrees when nothing (apart from windows) is running.
Give the CPU...

Opteron series 100 vs athlon 64 fx by
Martin
Anyone got a nice article that compares the two?
I know opteron is for servers, and fx for multimedia/gaming, but I'd like to
see a comparison of the two, including value for money.
Thanks
Martin

From AthlonXP to Athlon64 by
Larry Roberts
I currently run an Athlon XP 3000+ system. I'm in the process
of building an Athlon64 Socket 939 system. Would I see any performance
increase going to an Athlon64 3200+, or do I need to get something
like a Athlon64 4000+, or dual core? I however can't afford more than
an Athlon64 3200+ right now,...

What a waste by
Richard Miller
What good is a 64 bit computer? Can't play games, can't print anything, not
even throw a network. I bought one and what a waste. Can anyone tell me what
this thing is good for, except to wait 2 years when all the drivers come
out?

Wait by
RDN
I would bet, by now, that the majority of the users of this newsgroup
are running a system with a 64 bit cpu.
Microsoft will ship "Windows Vista in November 06". First for
business than in "January 07" for Home users.
Quick survey - How long will you wait until you full upgrade or switch

X2 vs X4 by
Dave[_33_]
If an application does NOT support multiple CPU cores, will it run
slower on a Phenom 2.4 GHz CPU than it would on an X2 2.4 GHz CPU?
I currently have a 2.2 GHz X2 and I want to upgrade it. My motherboard
supports the Phemon X4 but from what I'm reading, software that doesn't

I Boycott Western Digital by
RDN
I currently have a 20 Gb Seagate (system drive) and a 30 Gb Maxtor as a
backup
external enclosure drive.
Seagate tech just bought Maxtor. That sound great.
I never had a problem with Seagate or Maxtor hard drives.
But I can say I've had problems with Western Digital drives.
I've had two 1.6 Gb...

I need to purchase a workstation. Can anyone suggest a company that
makes a workstation with two AM2 sockets that can take 32 gigs and 2

This is for work and I usually buy Dell or IBM because we MUST have
