What Link between Mouse and Audio Circuitry? by
Don Phillipson[_4_]
It has happened twice now, that a failing mouse
(1) triggered audio malfunction (chattering playback) and then
(2) system hang, with no mouse or keyboard function
(which sometimes persisted after reboot, wasting much
time until I figured things out.)
It is my own fault for (a) preferring...

max transfer update by
Geoff[_9_]
Hello
I have just installed 2 TP-Link 1000bps TG-3269 NICs - replacing the 2
ADDON NIC1000Rv2 NICs.
From the Windows 7 PC to the XP Pro PC I now get 20MB/sec, and
from the XP Pro PC to the Windows 7 PC (both using Windows Explorer on
the Windows 7 PC) I get 36.9 MB/sec.
Both figures much better...

Power Management by
Noone
I have cross-posted in ms.public.winxp.gen discussion. USB keyboard won't
allow fans to shut down in power management. PS2 will. Dell PIV 865 chipset.
So far I am understanding that PS2 runs on +5 volts VSB and USB runs on +5
volts. The Dell Foxconn MOBO does not have a jumper for the USB...

CPU TDP by
GT[_8_]
CPU TDP question:
Why are the e6300, e6400 and e6600 all rated at 65w TDP? As I understand it,
the heat output is based on the CPU architecture multiplied by the CPU clock
speed and CPU vCore squared (roughly). With these 3 chips (and other CPU
families) the only different is their speed (and...

Netbook Harddrive by
Frederick
Yesterday, my daughter just gave me a relatively unused Dell 'Inspiron
Mini 10' Netbook. I installed XP SP3 on it with a few apps. It
worked beautifully after I downloaded and installed the required
drivers. Played a Youtube clip just fine.
When I turned it on this AM, it would not boot. ...

Restore partition question by
Menno Hershberger
I have an HP Pavilion Slimline with a bad 500Gb hard drive.
I have a new 600Gb drive ready to install.
Using Acronis, I cannot clone the drive due to bad sectors, even using the
ignore option.
However, I slaved the drive and have been able to copy all the important
data to an external drive.

I have connected the 1 Gigabit TP-Link switch and get odd results!
I have a Windows 7 Home Premium and a Windows XP Pro PC connected to
the switch and the ADSL modem/router also connected to it.
The Internet connections seems OK - download/upload speeds as normal
for both PCs.

emachine totalled !! by
babthrower
I bought an emachine EL1352-22C running under Windows 7, in February, to
replace my 2001 computer.
I started it up, entered a password, and then didn't use it until
yesterday because I was looking for an easy way to transfer my old
files.
I forgot my password in the intervening time. I'm furious...

SATA to IDE bridge adapter by
Art
I mistakenly purchased a dvd burner that has a SATA interface. My
machines are all older, and they only support IDE. Rather than return
the drive, I decided to try a low cost bridge adapter board. This
board can be identified by its UPC code # which is:
837654148396
Doing a search on that UPC #...

Monitor suggestions, replacing an old 4:3 Acer 17'' with 16:10 or not ? by
Ale
Hi all,
actually I've a monitor LCD Acer 17'' with speakers, DVI and VGA ports
and max resolution 1280x1024.
I'm thinking if I have any benefits in changing with a new 16:10 one,
maybe 24'' with resolution 1920x1080 (full hd).
I don't use it for films, just to work and to play games, I've a...
