Need driver help by Doomed Soul
I just formated a HP Compaq dc5700 (small form) buisness comp and Installed Xubuntu on it. I am finding out that getting drivers for this thing isn't as straite forward as windows. I went to HP site and (no suprise) no support for linux there. I tried the internal search for drivers tool and it...

I am trying to restore a Dell Optiplex GX270 small factor. The motherboard has IDE1 and IDE2 connections. The former is unused, and the latter is connected to the CD drive. The power cables include a PATA (molex) connector, but no SATA. I have spare IDE hard drives, no SATA drives. I think...

Toshiba Satellite A85 S1072 Driver Problem by [email protected]
I am trying to resurrect a Toshiba Satellite A85 S1072 laptop. I have XP SP3 installed on it, and have resolved all the drivers except for the Ethernet. I have found and tried two drivers: sa85lanx.exe tm4wlanutilax.exe But XP Device Manager still shows the Ethernet to be bad. What I believe is...

Hello, I'd like to issue another warning: When your ISP increases your internet speed, your very old cable modem may fail eventually. It's processor will have to work harder, draws more power, it may fail/overheat or the adapter may fail.

Cheap USB flash drives by Norm X
Hi, At first blush, inexpensive USB flash drives might seem a good place to install the many lovely Linux distros, a policy, I've pursed for many years. (Windows cannot run on a flash drive only an internal drive.) Although not my first USB flash drive, I purchased an 8 GB OCZ Rally2 some years...

(not APCI compliant) Installing Company of Heroes Tales of Valor on Windows XP 32 bit/Old system leads to Blue Screen of Death on Boot ?!? by Skybuck Flying[_4_]
Hello, I was curious how Company of Heroes Tales of Valor would run on my old Pentium III 450 mhz upgraded to 2 GB of RAM. Even if the game ran slow it could be interesting to test/try things out. So I transferred the 8 GB game iso to the old computer via network and then installed it over...

wireless print server by micky
To connect a printer that's not wireless to a wireless network, one uses a wireless print server. But what about a scanner? Do those connect the same way, with a wireless print server?

BIOS Message by [email protected]
During boot, a 3-line message is flashed on the screen which quickly disappears before I can get a chance to read it, or copy it down. Is there a way to freeze the BIOS to hold that message on the screen? Thanks Big Fred

Ebook reader/tablet. by Ian Field
Is there a specific group for questions about ebook reader/tablet type devices? What I intend is; obtain a very cheap - simple tablet for reading PDF as a bare minimum. Someone told me I won't be able to transfer files without Wi-Fi (my PC doesn't have it), I was hoping file transfer would be...

Want fast SATA HDD, recommendations? by ~misfit~[_15_]
Hi group. I have a tower system that I basically use as storage and backup for my laptop HDDs. It has four SATA trayless removable HDD 'docks' (for want of a better word) that I use to facilitate transferring data and doing backups. It works well. (System is an Asus P5KE-WiFi/AP board with a...

PCI Hard Drive (IDE) Controller Card by tb
I have A Trinity 400 (S1854) motherboard that goes back to 1999. Currently, it has an 80GB IDE/PATA hard drive installed. It is my understanding that the BIOS of a motherboard going back to that era has a 137GB (or so) limit in terms of hard drive size. I would like to install a 320GB IDE/PATA...

Why don't ePaper-devices do apps? by [email protected]
We know that epaper takes half a second to update its screen, so it can't keep-up with keyed input. But can't a method be found to buffer a number a chars, between screen updates. Or some other solution. And why shouldn't it have an email-client and a 'lynx-like' http-fetcher?

Will a processor by itself make a difference in video game resolution? by Doc[_2_]
I installed an Nvidia GTX 460 video card to boost the gaming experience. Looked far better than the 8600 GT I'd been using. Then I went from an E8400 Core2 Duo processor to a Q9550 Core2 Quad processor. I don't know if it's some placebo effect but it seems like the graphics is even better after...

Brother device 'cleaning' by Puddin' Man
I have a Brother MFC-J410W multi-fuction printer (fax, copier, etc) running on my little wireless LAN. 'Most every day, it wakes up and grinds a little with the display saying 'cleaning'. I think maybe it is just wasting ink or other resource that Brother wants me to buy from them. To keep the...

New thread by Norm X[_2_]
Hi, ?Does anyone here have experience with ASRock OC Tuner: http://www.asrock.com/Feature/OCTuner/index.asp Selecting the version for AMD RAM and a non AMD MOBO might be confusing. However, just to be safe, I guess I should try the version for my MOBO first.
