Workstation by
xscript
Hi!
I'm buying a new computer. Since I'm interested in 3D graphics I
decided to make it a dual processor workstation. Now I have a problem;
I can't choose between Opteron and Xeon. I read many comparison
articles and the only result is that I'm now even more confused; some
say Opteron is better,...

Workstation or desktop? by
Dave Smith
I'm considering building a computer around an Asus P4G8X Deluxe
motherboard. I'll use it primarily for communication with some audio
and graphics work. In researching this board, I see it referred to as
a "workstation" board as opposed to a "desktop" board. Intel lists
the E7205 chipset used in...

Worth getting new graphics card? by
S.Boardman
Hello again. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra (VIA KT333 chipset), 512Mb Corsair
PC3200 RAM, Athlon XP2500+
Currently I have a GeForce 4 MX440. My motherboard only supports AGP 4X. Now
I quite fancy a new graphics card, either for about 150 GBP or pushing the
boat out for Half Life2, one of the new DirectX...

Worth upgrading my HD? by
Bobby
I'm currently running a 120Gb, Maxtor PATA 133 hard drive with a 8Mb buffer
and I was considering upgrading to a new SATA Diamond Max 10, 250Gb HD with
16Mb buffer.
Will I notice any performance difference or are the improvements so subtle
that it won't make any difference to real world...

Worth writing zeros to my used hard drives? by
Jax
Home user with XP Pro.
I bought some 160 GB hard drives a couple of years ago and they got
filled up with data.
I have now migrated all the data off these 160 GB hard drives and will
now use the drives to hold backups.
QUESTION --- As the HDDs are now empty is it worth writing zeros,
before...

Would ATA 133 card help old SE440BX motherboard? by
Moe Hair
I would like to add a 40 or 80 gig hard drive to my Dell XPS 400 with an
Intel SE440BX motherboard (running on Windows 2000). Is a ATA 133 card
compatible and will it help recognize a larger hard drive. The Dell tech
support line (which is always wrong these days) says the largest hard drive
the...

Would like some recomendations on a good PSU by
Dunny Rummy
I wish to upgrade my 400W ATX PSU but not sure what is best on the
market. I would like a PSU, preferably name brand with all the bells
and whistles (minus that neon crap) and at least 500W (I run a lot of
hardware,ATI 9600XT 128MB, 2 optical drives ).
Please comment on your PSU or what you would...

Would like to create 2 hard drives that are identical by
dos-man
Well, my win 98 PC has crashed again. When I boot it just keeps
endlessly spinning the floppy drive. Tommorrow I have to bring the
monitor down from the attic and hook it up. Then I have to format the
C: drive and reinstall everything; all the drivers; all the software.
Yikes.
My computer does...

would storing my server in my basement be bad? by
Hank[_2_]
This is a dug out basement with a dirt floor about 5' high. It might get a
little damp over near the door on a real rainy day but it hasn't flooded
yet. I was thinking of putting a server on a table so it would be off the
ground and if it ever did flood that high I'd have alot of other problems...
