1.8" to 2.5" IDE HDD adapter by
galapogos
Hi,
I'm wondering if such adapters exist, that takes a 1.8" IDE HDD from
ultraportables/ipods, and converts them to a 2.5" form factor. I've
seen bare adapter PCBs, but I'm not sure if the entire PCB adapter +
1.8" HDD will fit within a 2.5" form factor, and plug into a regular
laptop...if such...

1/2" 9-track pertec interface card and software? by
Richard
I recently acquired a 9-track 1/2" tape drive with a pertec interface.
I'm looking for an interface card and data conversion/exchange
software for Windows 2000/Windows XP.
A little googling revealed that there are pertec-SCSI adapters, but I
don't know how well this will work with...

100 GB drive upgrade from 40 GB by
10Squared
I don't see the answer to this in the service manual for my HP Pavilion
ze4430, but since I'm getting a SMART warning that the 40 GB drive is about
to fail I'd like to replace it with a 60 or 100 GB drive. The manual
mentions support for drives up to 60 GB, but I suspect that's because that
was the...

100 Zip drive driver by
Mark Grim
Hi: I was recently installing an internal 100 mb Zip drive to my
computer, running W2000pro. Just as an experiment, I chose not to go
with the recommended driver in the installation proceedure and went with
something else (I don't know what). Now , when I start up the computer
it gets about half...

100% disk activity, but very little disk transfer by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
I've often noticed that sometimes my boot hard disk goes crazy, disk
activity light flickers constantly, system becomes unresponsive, but
there's no particular process hogging the processor cores. I managed to
watch one such incident while Hard Disk Sentinel was present in memory,
and when I...

1000 year data storage for autonomous robotic facility by
Bernhard Kuemel
Sorry for repost, I posted to sci.electronics before, which does not exist.
Hi!
I'm planning a robotic facility that needs to maintain hardware
(exchange defective parts) autonomously for up to 1000 years. One of the
problems is to maintain firmware and operating systems for this period.
What...

10000 RPM with 15000 RPM by
ali
I have 6 15K RPM Ultra3 36.4 gb SCSI disks and 4 10K RPM Ultra3 36.4
gb SCSI disks. I want to make Raid5 for my server. I want to ask if
there could be a problem and if there won't be any problem, how will
be its performance compared to both 10K RPM and 15K RPM SCSI disks ?

100GB of DDR RAM? by
ivowel
Are there any affordable ways to use 50 sticks of 2GB DDR Dimms in a
computer? Obviously, I would love a motherboard that has rows and
rows of computer addressable memory, but I do not believe this
exists. Maybe something emulating a hard drive exists, though. Any
ideas?
sincerely,
/iaw

101 things to do with a dead hard disk :) by
Andre
Hi group.
With all the computers being scrapped, there must be literally
thousands of useless HDD's dumped every week in the UK alone.
So, things to do with them.
1) Maglev (take off heads, use one of the actuator magnets)
2) Hard drive speakers (see Afrotech's site for this one)
3) Novelty...

This might seem like an ultra-paranoid configuration to some but I
could use some advice.
I am going to get two raid cards that supports 6 PATA drives each. I
am going to get two of those cases that are NORMALLY used to mount
multiple cd/dvd drives for mass duplication and use it instead to
house...
