FS: Proliant 4500 by
Dan
Need a reliable server? These just keep going, and going....
... I use one as an "on line backup storage" on my LAN. About ever month
or so, I fire it up, backup the data to it, and shut it down again.
When the power is off:
It can't get a virus.
It can't be hacked into.
Hot swappable drives,...

Are Xeon heatsinks (and Compaq in general) removable? by
Jason Arthurs
I'm running a Proliant 5500 Xeon currently with a single 500MHz 512kb
processor and I've been looking around for 550MHz 2Mb cache versions.
There seem to be a few available but they're either non-Compaq (IBM or
Dell) retention mechanisms or pulled from 8500's and have the wrong
heatsinks (and...

Paging Nutcracker by
Jeffrey Alsip
I have a line on some cheap 3000's that are full of SDRAM. I have to
pick them up on Wednesday, December 21. If you might want some of these
machines, they will go for $11 each, and you can meet me in Lombard to
pick them up. If you want me to get a couple for you, please advise.

What's the general concensus about SmartArray ADG? by
Rick F.
Since I'm pestering you all with various questions, how about
one more.. Anyone have any experience with using ADG that's
available on a SA-5304 vs. it missing on a SA-5312? Is the
speed difference noticable or not (with the 5312 being a bit
faster since it doesn't have ADG)?
Also, since I can't...

Proliant Drive Trays by
Heimo Hetl
Are the drive trays of a Proliant DL380, 380 G2, RA4000 and RA4100
interchangeable? Do they fit mechanically, are the backplanes identical?
I've seen white(ish) and black ones...
Did HP/Compaq ever change them? If so, when?
All hints welcome, maybe someone has a link to a...

Remove SCSI drive from DL380 while on? by
just bob
I have RAID5+1 and the spare has just been activated. In slots 4 and 5 I
have a mirror and I want to break the mirror and use one of the drives as
the spare for the RAID5+1. That would work fine if I could reboot the
server but I cannot. Can I just pull the drive out of slot 5 while "hot" and...

DL580 G1 No Video by
Niel J Humphreys
I have a few DL580 G1s with the same problem and looking at the HP help
forums others are having the same issue but no-one seems to be able to
answer it there.
Basically the servers seem like they are booting - they power up and the
drives start to spin as the Smartarray detects them etc but...

Proliant 800 upgrade. by
James Smith
I have a Proliant 800 that needs a memory upgrade, I would like to max it
out but I am not sure what the largest DIMM it will take is.
It has 2 x 400MHz Pentium 2 processors and currently has 256 MB (1x128 and
2x64) of PC 100 SDRAM. I have looked at the manuals on Compaq's web site for
Proliant...

Proliant 1500, Linux [Slackware, 2.4.26] and memory recognition by
Tomasz Nidecki
Hi, everyone,
I was wondering whether anyone could help me out with the problem of
memory recognition with a recently purchased ProLiant 1500.
I managed to install Slackware 9.1 on it and everything is going smoothly except
for memory recognition. I seem to be unable to make Slackware...

wierd IDE cable p/n needed by
NuTCrAcKeR
Hey Troops ...
I just picked up a 6400R for a song. It didnt have a CDROM drive, and I
found a combo floppy/CD from a DL580 so I picked it up. Neither the system,
nor the drive combo came with the tiny little cable that takes a normal
IDE40 pin header, and bends it to a micro IDE40 cable. Big40 =...

PPro 1mb Cache by

About a year ago I obtained 4 of these beauties, together with the
appropriate 12v VRMs. Now, they don't work in a ProLiant 5000. :-(
But looking at the Compaq site, they *do* appear in the Proliant 5000
parts/spares list (with a list price of about $2500 each!!!)

Will non-ECC memory work in a Proliant ML110? by
Thomas Cameron
I picked one up (3.0GHz, 256MB memory, U320 controller and 1x36GB 10000RPM
Ultra320 SCSI drive for a song. I am using it for a desktop workstation. I
want to bump up the memory but ECC PC3200 memory ain't cheap. Since I am
not using it as a server I'm not terribly concerned about ECC. So if I...
