Is a Proliant P800 PP200 upgradable to PII? by
Steve Kovack Sr.
While doing some perusing on Ebay I noticed that there are Pentium Pro
to Pentium II upgrade CPUs (Intel Overdrive units) available at a good
price. I figured I'd ask to see if anyone has ever used these things
successfully? I had tried doing this with a Powerleap Celeron 533
before without...

Are Xeon heatsinks (and Compaq in general) removable? by
Jason Arthurs
I'm running a Proliant 5500 Xeon currently with a single 500MHz 512kb
processor and I've been looking around for 550MHz 2Mb cache versions.
There seem to be a few available but they're either non-Compaq (IBM or
Dell) retention mechanisms or pulled from 8500's and have the wrong
heatsinks (and...

Drive is 'not stamped for monitoring' by
Jason Arthurs
Just rebuilding a Proliant 5500 and ran array diagnostic and it asked
me if I would like to see the faults.
"Port 1 Drive 3 is not stamped for monitoring"
I've now swapped out the drive for a spare and the rebuilt array
reports 'no problems detected'. What's with the other drive and can it
be...

Compaq Proliant DL380 by
[email protected]
Someone left a Compaq Proliant DL380 with me.
I am trying to setup win2k on it.
Somebody suggested I get cp005292 on a floppy and press F6 when win2k
starts and then press 'S', insert the floppy and rest will get done
automatically.
It did not.

Proliant 1850R and Fedora 4 by
Robert Bates
I decided today that it would be a good idea to update my 1850R with one
PIII 600 128meg and a 18.2 G drive running Red Hat 9.0 to Fedora Core 4
which turned out to be a mistake. It now hangs on any instance of X server,
including the graphical installation. I was able to complete a text...

Linux on Deskpro - Some hardware not recognized by
Jin Mazumdar
Another of my crazy projects. I want to convert a Compaq Deskpro
machine to a TV then TIVO box if possible under Linux.
I stuck in some cards and installed Linux (FC4). The cards are not
recognized. In particular I stuck in a TV tuner card and a wireless
network card. For some reason the sound...

Linux on Proliant 2000 by
Bignoel
hi Yall,
I know this posting has been on before but I need help.
I have a Proliant 2000 running Win XP. I want to load Linux 7 or 9 or
Solaris 10. I'd love Solaris 10 but at this stage would settle for anything.
With linux i get to the Hd formatting page and it says it can't find any
hardware to...

What's the deal with rack mounting the ProLiant 7000? by
.
I've been busy building up my rack today, and put in the 1200 and the
5500 without any great dramas, apart from lifting the 5500 to head
height - talk about working out.
Now the rail kits I'm using are seconds from the local Compaq wrecking
yard. The 1200 was good in that I bought it with rails,...

Tape backup under Fedora Core 4 by
Jeffrey Alsip
Suddenly my Super-workstation (ProLiant 3000) running Fedora Core 4
doesn't seem so super. I have a standard 15/30G tape drive connected
externally to the onboard SCSI port. I am attempting a backup os 20G
(19.383G) to a tape running compression. Now the indicators tell me
that the backup will take...

Fibre Channel Question by
[email protected]
Hi Folks,
It's been a while since I've posted anything. I have a question that is
not really a Compaq/HP server specific question, but the solution will
more then likely be running in my PL6500.
So here goes, I have an HP 146.8GB FC SCA2 drive, with an Emulex LP9802
(LC connectors) card. I was...

PL6500 will not power up by
[email protected]
Hi,
I recently removed a tape drive from my 6500 and found when I put the
drive cage back in place the system failed to boot up.
I am getting an amber light on the "interlock fault" at the front, and
an amber light for "misc" on the system board. According to my readings
this is relating to the...

Damaged PL3000 by
Robert Bates
After my battle with the PL5000 and a tape drive I found a PL3000 on eBay
with a tape drive for about the same price I paid for my tape drive alone.
Unfortunately, the seller did a poor job of packing it and as usual UPS was
rough and dropped it on the lower left corner pretty hard.
When booting...

Proliant 3000/Win2K Hangs during boot by
Absolutely
Have a Proliant 3000 (single 333 CPU, RAID5) that I added an Adaptec 1200
IDE RAID board to. After adding this board, Win2K will not boot unless I
unplug the CDROM from the IDE connector on the MB. With the CDROM
unplugged, everything runs fine.

Hawking KVM doesn't work with Compaq by
Absolutely
I have a Hawking 4 port KVM that won't work with my Compaq servers. Has
anyone experienced this? Hawking says it's something going on with the
servers. A standard keyboard and mouse work fine when attached directly to
the servers. I've tried the same KVM on Dell machines and didn't have...

Proliant 800 upgrade. by
James Smith
I have a Proliant 800 that needs a memory upgrade, I would like to max it
out but I am not sure what the largest DIMM it will take is.
It has 2 x 400MHz Pentium 2 processors and currently has 256 MB (1x128 and
2x64) of PC 100 SDRAM. I have looked at the manuals on Compaq's web site for
Proliant...

How many drives per channel on a SA3200? by
Jason Arthurs
I'm about to drop a SA3200 controller into a Proliant 5500 with a ten
drive cage. This cage has a single SCSI connector so I need to confirm
if the 3200 is 7 or 14 drives per channel?
Is the 3200 the 'best' controller for a machine where 32bit PCI is the
fastest bus option?
Regards,
Jason.
