Thinking about a Gigabyte GA-8KNXP. Need help! by Rich Heimlich
I currently own an Athlon-based Soyo board I'm happy with and in the past I've been an A-bit fan (not in a while though) and have never owned an MSI board. Based on the recent Tom's Hardware round-up I was thinking of getting and MSI 865PE. However, I've gotten concerned because of many posts in...

GA-7VAXP and Windows 98 SE by Ted Kulinski
I tried this board with an image of my old W98 SE system, and with a fresh install of W98SE, and had all kinds of problems with stability. Also, the sound would not work. (It worked fine on a Windows XP partition, so I'm sure the hardware was OK). I was just wondering if many people run this...

RAM speed question by Iain Robinson
I've decided to buy a 333MHz Athlon (2500+ Barton) and I believe the FSB & RAM are better to be in synch? Some points I'm still not sure on; -Is there any advantage in buying PC3200 RAM, to run at PC2700 speeds? (would it overclock better?) -If I ran it at 400MHz would it be beneficial, as it's...

What's the optical audio output all about? by Joe Woods
I have a GA-7VAX. I have the audio-combo kit that gives me the extra audio connectors and 2 digital outputs (coax + optical). I am going to buy some new speakers, maybe the CREATIVE INSPIRE 5500 DIGITAL. Can I connect to these speakers using the digita optical output? or is that not a good idea?...

GA-7VT600 by Marc
I have just seen this board advertised, and would like to ask if anyone has any experience of using this board yet. My primary system uses a GA-7VAXP supporting an Athlon 2500+ (barton) + 512 Mb memory. My secondary system is based upon a ECS K7S5A with an Athlon 2000, again 512MB memory. The...

Memtest86 errors by Boudewijn
Hello, It could be that you need to relax the timings a bit with the second stick in. Are both sticks running fine separately, i.e. no errors in Memtest? If so, try relaxing the timings and look again. Regards, Boudewijn "Bob Davis" wrote in...

RAID question by crw
Why do so many domestic users seem to opt for RAID systems with all its inherent expense and complication? Isn't it still easier (and safer) to back up critical data to CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or similar, and be sure to have an archive totally independent from one's PC?

Update: Memtest86 errors by Bob Davis
Update to original message: I managed to shoehorn the stick in bank0/slot1 past the HSF and installed the new memory alone in B0/S1 and B1/S3 (remember, I have six slots). The tests showed no errors for the new memory, so the error on Test 5 occurs only when all four sticks are installed. I am...

Questions are below. It's been an experience the last 2 days. I opened the box with my processor and 4 pins were bent. I went to the website where I bought it and they said returns required within 7 days and it had already been 8. Aargh! I took it to my friendly, neighborhood PC builder and...

Long (2 min. beep) during normal startup (GA-8IGX) by UsualNoise
Wondering if this is something to worry about: if I restart my computer after having been powered down for a while (an hour or so) it starts up with a continuous beep - same tone as the POST beep (or at least pretty close), but it continues right through startup, loading WinXP, and stops after...
