What after XP? by
XP-dinosaur
I'm a home user on XP Pro. I need to work out what OS to specify on
a prebuilt machine (one for me and one for a friend). It's either
Windows 7 or Vista.
Although I'm fairly technical I haven't kept up to date with details
of the newer Windows. I haven't even seen either Win 7 or Vista...

Unplugging power cord by
Derek Baker
I see in the manual for my new motherboard - an MSI K8N Neo - it says to
remove the power cord when inserting and removing cards and DIMMs.
Is this good advice or excessive caution? With my current board I never did
that.

Any way to wipe this drive? by
[email protected]
I have a 120 GB hard drive that my RAID controller encountered an
error with, so I am trying to wipe it and return it to the
manufacturer. But when I use Copywipe to wipe it, Copywipe encounters
an error at 52%. It asks me if I want to continue, and I enter Y, but
then Copywipe freezes the...

cooling computer with refrigerator by
shegeek72
I've been thinking about blowing cold air into a puter case. Water
cooling only takes care of the CPU / GPU, while the other devices: HD /
CD / DVD, other MB chips, etc are left to fans. I know nothing about
cooling compressors, but what's the possibily of building a small
refrigeration unit and...

Wooden PC by

I'm thinking of building a wooden PC: Wooden case, Wooden CPU - Wooden go!!
Seriously - what is wrong with a wooden PC case? I'm thinking of making
myself one to replace my ageing metal case, which has more holes cut in it
than a colander. I would use the metal, slide out backing 'tray' for the...

D: Drive Disappeared by
Bob
For no apparent reason, I lost the D: drive in Win2K. It shows up on
the BIOS POST, so I know it's there. The IDE channel is present in
Device Manager. Devide Manager also reports that the physical drive is
present and working properly. It just does not show up in Win2K.
What is going on and what...

I have a desktop laser printer which seems to get to much toner on the

Are any ill effects caused by using "inkjet paper" in a laser printer.

Need New PC recommendations/info by

I'm looking for a PC w/at least a 3.4Mhz processor, 1
Gig RAM, 128 Meg Vid. RAM and 80 gig hard drive. A 2nd 10k RPM 80 gig

& install it. I'd also want a 17 or 18" LCD. I'm looking to spend
$1400ish.
The machine will be used...
