new optical drives still ata33 by
VanShania
I did some research on optical drive transfer rates and the majority of the
new optical drives are still ATA33 standard, including Plextor 740 and Nec
3550. The only dual-layer burners that are ATA66 standard are the Pionner
DVR-110D and the LiteOn SOHW-1693S. LG also has an ATA66 drive but it...

Damn, that's just an unbelievable price difference between two
processors that come from essentially the same core!

athlon 64 4000 90nm rev VS athlon 64 4000 by
Bosconian
I'm sorry if this question has been asked and answered before, but what's
the difference between the Athlon 64 4000 90nm rev and Athlon 64 4000 and is
it worth the extra $36 (according to pricewatch.com as of 4/7/06)?
Thanks!

disabling hardware data prefetch by
Steve
Does anyone know how to disable hardware data prefetch on the Athlon64
architecture?
I want to turn this feature off because I want to use software
prefetching instructions to load cache lines from memory and I don't
want the hardware prefetcher interfering with my software prefetch
schedule.

where to buy amd barebones? by
Doug
I'm looking for advice on online retailers to buy from. Looking to get
an amd x2 4400-based system, and all of the retailers from pricewatch
seem to be a little shady (smksuperstore, supergooddeal, pcparts.com,
magicmicro.com). Does anyone have any suggestions of reliable online
retailers to buy...

Dual opteron upgrade advice by
Jared Richardson
I'm currently running an early Tyan Thunder motherboard w/two of the 240
CPUs, along with two 1 gig sticks of RAM and a 5200 NVidia video card. Since
this motherboard only has PCI-X slots (which aren't PCI-Express), I've been
very limited on how decent a video card I can buy. The 5200 seems to be...

Hot C drive by
DP
Does anyone know if dual-core chips (in my case an AMD) or Windows XP x64 or
both tend to cause the main drive (C:) to run hot?
I have a Western Digital SATA drive which I can easily get above 55 degrees
C, according to the HD Tune utility. The utility's web site also says drives
shouldn't be...

CPU fan by
Travis King
The CPU fan on Mom's Athlon XP 1800+ is beginning to make a horrible buzzing
noise. If we put the heatsink & CPU fan from my Athlon XP 2400+ system and
put it on that CPU (the 1800+), it would work fine, wouldn't it? (It's the
stock CPU fan and heatsink.) I'm getting a new heatsink/fan anyway.

AMD Single Core vs Dual Core by
I am looking at about a 325 dollar budget for a new processor. I am
looking at the x2 3800+ (Dual Core) S93.9 CPU and the AMD 4000+ (Single
Core) s939 CPU.
So far on various web sites they do not do a side by side or verses
comparison with the AMD X2 and single cores (or at least these 2...

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe by
Bosconian
I'm seriously considering purchasing an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe, paired with
an Athlon 64 4000 90nm rev. Before pulling the trigger, does anyone have any
strong objections to this mobo? What about SATA2 support (and does SATA2
even make that much of a difference)?
Thanks in advance.
