AMD Athlon 64 3800+ at 1.8GHz vs 2.4GHz by
Russell Harper
In the motherboard/CPU combos listed under pricewatch.com, most of the ones
with AMD Athlon 64 3800+ processors are clocked at 1.8GHz, instead of
2.4GHz. Is this because of limitations in the motherboard, RAM, cooling,
etc.?
Thanks for reading,
Russell

Newbie questions about 64-bit systems by
Humga
I'm a very experienced computer system builder :D But so far all systems
I've built are around the Athlon XP 32-bit ones. Never touched any 64-bit
stuff.
So could anyone (preferably those who has a 64-bit AMD and had used an AMD
32-bit CPU/mobo) point out the most important things I need to know...

Overclocking the AMD 64 FX-51 by
Gregory I. Hayes
I'd had some luck overclocking the FX-51 (from 2200 - 2400) and am looking
for others who have done so. I am using an ASUSTek SK8N motherboard with 2
Gig of memory. I would like to know what core voltage you have had the best
results with. I have not been able to maintain 2400 for extended...

s939 mobos: Where are they? by
Andrew Krieg
So are all s940 mobos compatible with s939 chips? I haven't seen any
s939 mobos and only a handful of s940s. Where are the new boards?

Ping Fitz by
Chris
Greets Fitz,
When you answered my question about a single hard drive on the SATA
RAID controller, you mentioned that I should have opted for some
PC3500 memory over the PC3200 memory that I had ordered. Well, you
were right, because the Corsair sticks will not run stable at CAS 2
(as it comes...

Opteron series 100 vs athlon 64 fx by
Martin
Anyone got a nice article that compares the two?
I know opteron is for servers, and fx for multimedia/gaming, but I'd like to
see a comparison of the two, including value for money.
Thanks
Martin

HP zv5000z notebook by
General Schvantzkoph
I'm thinking about getting an HP zv5000z series notebook with an Athlon 64
3400+. Does anyone in the NG have one of these, how do you like it? Also
are there any Linux compatibility problems?
One final question, I vaguely recall reading something about HP selling
systems with a castrated AMD64...

Socket A & 754 Sempron caution. by
Wes Newell
I don't know if this is well known or not but AMD has used different
criteria in giving the Sempron line of cpu's its PR numbers. So don't
buy a Sempron 3100+ expecting it to be faster than an Athlon 64 3000+.
Because it's nowhere close to as fast. AMD ommitted a bunch of the
benchmarks used for...

939 Motherboards with ECC by
General Schvantzkoph
Do any of the 939 pin motherboards support ECC?. The 939 pin A64 supports
ECC but none of the motherboards seem to mention it and the Crucial site
says no ECC for the MSI and Gigabyte boards. I don't see why they would
have left an important feature like ECC off since it's essentially free.
Is...

CPU temp Monitor for ZNF3-250 by
Carlo Razzeto
Hey there, I have an Athlon64 3000+ sitting in a Chaintech ZNF3-250
Motherboard. What I'm woundering is, if anyone knows if there is an decent
3rd party CPU temp monitor program for that board. I tried out MBM 5 with
the latest updates but in only officially supports the ZNF3-150, and when...

Socket 754 on its way out? by
Cyde Weys
It seems to me like socket 754 is on its way out, to be replaced by
sockets 939/940. From what I've read it is already at the limit of
its capabilities, while sockets 939/940 have a lot more potential
left. I was considering upgrading my system to a 64-bit processor,
but it doesn't seem like 754...

Athlon 64 questions by
Mike B
My new athlon XP system just got fried..
I have some questions. I've heard the Athlon64 3200+ can beat a P4 3.2 EE in
most tests. Is this true, and is there any reason why one would buy the P4
over the A64 other than bias?
Also, i'm a bit confused now.. I see A64 3200+ listed at pricewatch.....

Ed, I feel so silly. I told you that the Chaintech VNF3-250 motherboard
didn't support Cool n Quiet. That is what the tech support guy at Chaintech
told me.
However, I just found Cool N Quiet in the BIOS under Power Options (or some
such) This is new to the BIOS dated 7/29/2004 that I posted...

AMD 64 3200 - Idling at 65 degress by

Hi all,
Another temperature related question. Reading back through this group
I can see there has been much discussion regarding this. Anyway I
have an AMD 64 3200 with a Gigabyte K8NS Pro motherboard and the CPU
runs at 60-65 degrees when nothing (apart from windows) is running.
Give the CPU...
