Re-soldering Power Receptacle Cost? by Boris[_5_]
Yesterday I resurected an old i6000 that had been used as a student's laptop for 5 years. I bought a Dell Original 9-cell battery from Pacific Battery and paid a local pc shop $140 to fix the intermittantly working motherboard power receptacle. It was lose. I'm just curious. For those that...

Macintosh Style Application Launch Bar by ~~Alan~~[_5_]
While supporting a user on her new Dell laptop running Windows 7, I noticed two things, a Macintosh style application launch toolbar and a desktop background similar to what is seen if you mouse over to the Show Desktop in the lower right of the screen. I recently acquired in a raffle, a...

Optiplex 330 picky about memory, or is it just me? by Ben Myers[_2_]
Went to do a memory upgrade of an Optiplex 330 yesterday. I took along three tested matched pairs of PC2-5300 memory, the type the spec calls for. The memory in the computer originally is the same speed. The computer rejected all three sets of memory, halting the system with the message that...

Dell's Driver Site by Pen
I recently tried downloading some drivers from Dell's site using Firefox 3.6, which they say is OK. Not Opera or Safari, but I couldn't get it to work. I finally got my drivers by using Internet Explorer. Is it me or is the site messed up? Anyone else run into this?

I recently got delivery of a Dimension 780. It has a HDMI connection on an NVidia adapter. Currently, I'm using an adapter cable that convert it to a conventional display connection. I've used HDMI cables in the past for HD TVs. Is the cable needed here different? How do I identify one on the...

Dell LTN-24102M to LTN-24102B Crossflash by William R. Walsh
Do you have a Dell system with a Lite-On LTN-24102M CD-RW in it? This drive is nothing more than an LTN-24102B unit with Dell specific firmware. It's possible to apply Lite-On supplied firmware to this drive with no ill effects. Lite-On's firmware is a great deal newer than that provided by...
