SmartStart not so smart? Compaq Proliant DL380 issues by
gravyface
Hello,
Just finished reading another thread on the same G1 DL380 but I'm still unable to rebuild my array. I only have one of four SCSI disks but would like to get Ubuntu Linux running for test/dev purposes.
I googled around and found a copy of SmartStart 5.5 on HP's site and burned a copy of it...

running W2000 SP4 on a HP DL360 G4 2 disks mirrored
in case of disk failure - is just a case of replacing the faulty one
and allowing a rebuild – or is other configuration necessary

Quantum DLT7000 on a Proliant 3000 by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I have a Quantum DLT3000 DLT tape drive that I'm trying to connect to a
Proliant 3000 using the external SCSI interface of the onboard SCSI
card. I am using a brand new SCSI cable. However, the SCSI BIOS does
not seem to be detecting the drive. During POST, the Smart 2 DH
controller...

NuTCrAcKeR: SwEeT! by
Guy Macon
Here is my theory:
"NuTCrAcKeR" is actually a self-aware artificial intelligence that
self-organized when a critical mass of Compaq servers were hooked up
to the Internet. He helps us puny humans with our silly problems so
as to increase the number of Compaq servers, and thus to expand...

Raid Array Bandwidth by
Guy Macon
I am setting up the Proliant 7000 I picked up cheap, and have a
question about raid array bandwidth.
This server has three drive cages, each holding 4 or 6 drives
depending on height. Right now 64MB smart array 3200 raid
array controllers are practically free on eBay, so I was thinking
of putting...

Troubleshooting my $16 server by
Guy Macon
Guy Macon http://www.guymacon.com/ wrote:
(Describing a Proliant 7000 I got on eBay)
I figured from the description and the fact that this is a recycling
business that the disk drives and RAM would be stripped, but was hoping
for at least one Xeon processor. I was right about the drives,...

Well, I did it... bought a Proliant 7000 by
Guy Macon
Although I am happy as a clam with my quad PPro 5500R, when I saw a
7000 for $199, I couldn't resist the temptation. For that I got
seven 10,000 RPM 9.1 GB wide ultra SCSI drives, three power supplies,
and Quad Pentium Pro CPUs in a configuration that has a lot more room
around the CPUs for...

I just had a hard drive fail! by
Guy Macon
....so I pulled it and put in a replacement, and the array controller
filled it with the exact same data that was on the bad drive.
I didn't even have to reboot.
Life is good when you use a Compaq server as your desktop PC. :)

Proliant 7000 or 5500? by
Guy Macon
I am thinking of replacing my 200MHz Pentium Pro 5500 with
something a bit faster. There are a lot of Xeon 5500s on eBay
with 400-550 Mhz Xeons, or I have an opportunity to pick up a
Proliant 7000 locally cheap.
Will I be able to put the 3GB of 228471-001 256MB ram chips and the
199598-001 4.3GB...

Weird problem by

I will be shocked if anyone has the solution to this...
My Proliant 5500R PPro runs perfectly, except on two occasions.
Occasion #1 - after years of perfect service:
I hit the power switch and it starts up, then goes dead after
a few seconds. Turn it off and on, no problem. Works fine

Can't run Smart Start 5.4 by
Hank Arnold
I've run into a catch 22 with some Compaq 6400R servers that were donated to
the Hospice I support. I want to wipe everything out and start fresh. If I
boot the Smart Start CD, it goes through several gyrations and then tells me
that I have to re-install windows on the "S:" drive. If I let it...

Adding RAID to an ML370 or ML350 by
Hank Arnold
We are configuring some ML3x0's for RAID. There are two scenarios:
1) Upgrading an ML370 G2 server that has 6 drives and no RAID. We want to
construct it so that we have a RAID-1 C: drive and a RAID-5+1 (or RAID-10)
D: drive.
2) Configuring a new ML370 G4 (and 350) with 8 drives (using the cage...
