4214R Drives Stopping and Starting by
Will
I have a Compaq 4214R rackmount drive case where the drives in slots 3 and 4
are stopping after about 15 minutes of use. The next time a Windows 2003
application needs a file on the file system that is mirrored on the drives
in those slots, you can hear the drives starting up, and after a long...

Install Selected Options by
Will
Can someone explain to me in the Proliant Softpaqs for Windows 2003 what the
option that says "Install Selected Options" means? I've never once seen my
selections respected, and the software always installs what it wants to
install, which is everything.

Installing Motherboard Drivers on DL380 G4 by
Will
I'm confused by the Windows 2003 Softpaq for the DL380 G4. There are
options for *both* Intel and AMD motherboard drivers. Since the system is
Intel based I don't understand why AMD is there. And better still the
Intel motherboard drivers refuse to install.

I Did a SmartArray 5Si Boo Boo by
Will
I don't know if this is recoverable or not, but I would appreciate some
advice. Someone here built a Windows 2000 Server system incorrectly and
placed the boot devices in a DL380 SCSI ID slots 5 and 6. Windows 2000 had
no problems installing to the logical drive at that location (RAID 1)...

Rack Rail for MSA50 by
Will
The quickspecs for the MSA50 SAS JBOD enclosure say the rack rail option is
3R-A5281-AA. Does this go by alternate spare or option or assembly
numbers? I don't find the 3R part number version on any of the price
comparison services.

HP 349239-B21 250GB Hotswap SATA by
Will
The HP option number 349239-B21 is the hotswap 250GB SATA drive. If you
order using that number you can end up with Maxtor or Western Digital,
different spare numbers, and maybe other makes as well.
Is it really safe to build logical arrays with MSA1500 that mix and match
different...

DL385 SAS is Fast! by
Will
We did our first Windows 2003 64-bit install to a DL385 with a single dual
core 2.2 processor and 73 GB 10K SAS drives. The drives were impressively
fast, and I was a bit surprised considering the toyish 2.5" form factor.
We had the boot device configured as two 73GB drives in RAID 1+0.
One...

MSA1500 with 300GB SATA? by
Will
Does anyone know if the MSA1500 will accept DiamondMax 10 300 GB SATA
drives? Compaq appears to have part numbers for 160GB, 250GB, and 500GB
SATA drives. Many of these are implemented as DiamondMax 10 drives. I'm
hoping they didn't hardwire recognition of the drives to a particular size...

MSA20 for SAS Drives? by
Will
Will the MSA20 external SATA enclosure also work as a 3.5" SAS drive
enclosure? Since the cabling looks the same from the outside, it looks
like all the pins would be connected and it could be used this way?

SCSI ASYN Mode by
Will
Can someone please confirm if a SCSI hotswap drive comes up reporting its
speed as ASYN, does this mean it is limited to 1.5 to 5 MB / sec? What
causes an ultra-80 device to back down to that speed?

Any Way to Add TWO NC-3134 Ethernet Cards to Windows NT 4.0? by
Will
Is there a trick to adding two Compaq NC-3134 ethernet cards to a Windows NT
4.0 box? When I select Add for the second card, and insert the Compaq
OEMSETUP.INF on the most recent ethernet distribution floppies, Compaq
simply re-installs the existing card. The second card never shows up in
the...

MSA1500 Uses the MSA1000 Controller? by
Will
The service and maintenance guide for the MSA1500 shows the second
controller for the MSA1500 is the MSA1000 controller. So does this mean
the MSA1000 and MSA1500 controllers are identical to each other?!

I installed the latest Proliant Service Pack (PSP) for Windows 2003, and
after a reboot my Network Connections folder is empty. The system gadgets

Compaq Fibre Cards for Fibre Array and Later EVA by
Will
What would be a good choice for a Compaq fibre channel card used in a
clustering application. Today the back end will be the older fibre channel
array (4100) but there is a potential in the future to use EVA, so I need a
card compatible with either application.

One thing I have noticed recently, as result of the recent discussion on

lightning fast by comparison to the same drives mounted JBOD on an...

ACLU Hangs on Startup Configuring MSA1500 by

We are doing our first install of an MSA1500 configured with a single

the controller and drives and does not report errors. As soon as we
start the ACLU, however, it just hangs and never even draws the contents of
the...
