Better hard drive for laptop? by JimL
I was looking at Hitachi drives (like what came in my ThinkPad). A 120GB drive at 5400 rpm costs twice as much ($120 - $63) as a 120GB with virtually the exact same specs except in 4200 rpm. I see a better throughput when used internally as opposed to externally. Is that what makes it worth...

Better HDD cooling by contact with case or open to air? by lonra
I want to cool my one of my hard drives but without using a fan. (A) Is it better to have the smooth metal side of the HDD resting on the metal of the PC case. OR (B) Is it better to have the drive mounted (using the side screws) with air above and below it. The airflow is minimal.

Better low noise audio cards ? by Richard Brooks
I have not really been using my cheap audio card for sound capture and have found that it picks up the various transients that are given out by the pc when recording to a WAV recorder/editor. What are people using for good sound reproduction ? Many thanks, Richard Brooks.

Better performance: Athalon XP 3200+ or Intel Duo T2300? by Liam
My current PC has an AMD Athalon 3200+. I'm getting a new notebook and while it's not going to be a gaming system, I'd like it to be at least as powerful as my old PC if not moreso. So I'm wondering if the Intel Duo T2300 is going to be as good, or if I should spend the extra hundred or two for...

Better picture w/New graphics card? by Steve
Hello, I use a computer that runs Debian. I beleiev it has a 16 meg, maybe 32, ATI graphics card and a 19" Hanns-G LCD Monitor. My eyes are getting bad and I can hardly make out the words on the screen sometimes. I can still read a book fine in good light. I use my wife's computer and it...

Beware of putting WD Caviar 250GB HDs into external enclosures - high current at spinup by Jeffrey Morse
I found this out the hard way recently with a WD 2500PB Caviar drive and an Addlogix/Compucable FireExpress 525DX enclosure. Last night I installed a re-certified (a euphemism for used) Caviar 250GB drive into it, and proceeded to format it in Windows. Well I knew something was wrong when the...

Beware US Robotics (and others) by Tom B.
I input the term "microATX" into Google and received over 93,000 hits. I thought surely this form factor would be supported at least by major manufacturers. WRONG! Wonderful US Robotics (USR) lists an internal modem on their website but doesn't/didn't list any dimentions or case form...

BEWARE! CIRCUYT CITY by gecko
I ordered a Seagate external hard drive from them. It took an inordinate amount of time to get to me, and what's worse, the Seagate box inside Circuit City's box WAS EMPTY! How about that. A call to them resulted in their saying their 'legal department' would be told about it. -GECKO

Bewa Maxtor Diamondmax by carey
Just bought one, model 6L120P0 and installed in my Windows XP sp2 and it sounded like a train that has seen better days. Since the shop won't accept returns and I can't claim on the warranty I just dumped it in the trash bin. Carey

beweging registreren op PC by Wim
Bestaat zo'n systeem?

big case - IDE 18 inch length limit. (also, RAID question) by Anon
I have a fairly big case, about 18" high. drive bays go right up to the top of it. I can only reach the lowest bay though, because the distance diagonally from the IDE connector on my mobo to the bays is 18" I have a huge 40-wire IDE cable that reaches, but I want to use a 80 wire cable because...

Big computer problem.. by BlindMelon
Ok.. well yesterday we had a crazy lightning storm. I came home to find that our living room computer’s monitor was all crazy.
