LCD Monitors, Should I buy one? by
[email protected]
I have been thinking of buying one LCD. I have a very nice monitor, and
I love tube monitors. LCD monitors have turned me off because nearly
all LCD makers don't want to sell backlight for the LCD, and present
LCD won't work with HD-DVD due to "systemwide content protection scheme
called PVP-OPM"...

Solid state hard drive by

Just found this adapter:
http://www.cfide.co.uk/compact_flash_ide_adapter_cfide_fdd.shtml
It lets you connect a compactFlash memory card to your IDE interface, to act
as a permanent storage (hard disk). Anyone any experience of this technology
and can comment on performance versus a 'normal'...

I'm looking for a replacement for my current wireless keyboard & mouse.

Heat-tolerent computers. by
Skybuck Flying[_7_]
Here is an idea for the future which could buy some time with increasing
computer performance:
Start designing entire computers which are very heat tolerent.
So illiminate all components which are low heat tolerent like plastics/pcb's
and such.
Replace everything with maybe metals or so which...

Computer speaker recommendations. by

For listening to the occasional MP3, sports video clips (like ESPN) and
such. The speakers on my LCD are pretty puny and not really loud enough
to hear much. I don't have a sound card so standard mother board
connections are all I have available. The mother board has VT1708

How to enable a healthy RAID storage array on Win10? by
Norm X[_2_]
Hello fellow enthusiasts,
I finally did the work of moving a 'system reserved' partition from a Win10
HDD to my 240GB SSD, in front of the Win10 C:\ partition, and now, with the
help of EasyBCD, I was able to boot SSD and remove the original install HDD.
By today's standards a 240 GB SSD is...

Emachine 700id : Upgrading Video Problems by

I have been trying to upgrade the video on my ol' emachine 700 id. According
the the e4me.com website, the mobo should autodetect the PCI (Radeon 7500
64MB). I have went into BIOS and disabled the video on mobo and switched it to
PCI but it still wants to go back to onboard video. After I do...

Printer will not come online on LPT2 (PCIcard) by
Per Holm
Hi,
I will try once more. I did not get the answer I need:
This PCI card says it will work with DOS. Also, using MSD I can get the
computer to recognize the card, remap the IRQ and use the right address (I
have disabled the built-in ports except LPT1 to make sure this doesn't have
an impact)....

AIX versus SUN and Linux, best price performance ? by
Frank van de Pol
Please don't use RAID-5 in database applications if high performance is
one of your objectives. Better use RAID-10 (combination of mirroring and
striping) at the expense of 50% diskspace for redundancy.
Looking at the number of disks I suppose scsi is the way to go.
Dell makes some pretty decent...
