reluctant overclocker considering C2D E6600 by
»Q«
I was looking to put together a C2D box, with no thought of
overclocking, when I noticed the E6600 was slightly more expensive than
the E6750. I figured that must be because the E6600 is easily OCable,
and some googling and reading here confirm it. So I find myself in the
same boat as a few years...

Stress-test four cores? by
~misfit~[_8_]
I've built a machine for a mate. Asus P5K-Premium/Q6600. He's going to bring
it around tomorrow night for me to overclock it for him. When I had it here
I tried to stress all four cores with the aplets I already have, (Orthos,
Prime(5..) and didn't do too well. Is there a tool for the job? I...

Q6600 "safe" temps? by
~misfit~[_8_]
Hey,
I'm just OCing and stressing a new build for a mate. Asus P5K-Deluxe WiFi-AP
with a G0 Q6600 topped with a Thermaltake Big Typhoon. The case isn't the
best in the world for ventilation (Gigabyte 3D Aurora) but it's also not the
worst. 1 x 120mm in the front, 2 x 120mm in the back as well...

Motherboard help... by
~misfit~[_6_]
Hi folks,
I've tried to search the group's archives (Google) but aren't sure what
string to put in. I need advice..
I'm looking at getting a low-cost (i.e. *Not* Striker Extreme. g) Asus or
Gigabyte (they're about the only boards that seem to be stocked much here in
NZ) 775 mobo that I'll be...

Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA VIA PT880 Ultra.... by
~misfit~[_6_]
Oh well, after achieving what I consider to be a reasonable overclock on my
"non-overclockable" ASUS P5PE-VM getting my E4500 to 2.93GHz at stock
voltage it seems that I'm going to be getting an Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA VIA
PT880 Ultra anyway!
Here's me, quite happy with the P5PE-VM/E4500 @ 2.93...

Hey gang, long time no visit...
I have a Gigabyte GA 6VTXE just given to me with a P!!! 933MHz Coppermine
CPU and 512MB PC133. I have a Tualatin Celeron 1.3GHz CPU that I could put
in but was wondering if it would be worth while. (I tried it, reset the
jumpers and it didn't boot. I'm just...

Plugin for MBM5 to read C2Ds. by
~misfit~[_3_]
http://www.thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?t=74
Just thought folks might be interested. I've enabled it and stopped Core
Temp (as they were reading identically). I was using MBM for CPU load and
Core Temp for temp (indication). Now MBM5 does both.
Cheers,

Opinions on CPU choice please.... by
~misfit~[_3_]
I'm thinking of replacing my E4500 @ 3.32GHz with a 45nm part as this was
always my plan on buying this mobo (P5K-E WiFi-AP).
I'm on a tight budget. I was considering getting an E8400, that was always
my plan. However, I see that an E7200 is only 2/3 of the price, has a higher
multiplier and...

My E7300..... by
~misfit~[_3_]
I mentioned here a while back that I was going to upgrade my E4500
@ 3.32GHz/1.375V for an E7300 and that
I was hoping to get 4GHz out of it.
Sadly I was aiming a bit high. After much non-POSTing, not loading Windows,
BSODs and Prime fails I found that it topped out at 3.6GHz but that it...

Updated my P5W DH from an E6600 to an E6850 by
~misfit~[_3_]
Somewhere on teh intarweb "William" typed:
It's a fact,
certified faster CUP's run cooler than OC'ed CPU's at the same speed.
I take issue with this "fact" so have crossposted it to
alt.comp.hardware.overclocking. Hopefully someone there will give their
opinion.

Suggestions for an AM2+ mobo? by
~misfit~[_3_]
Hey all,
I'm Intel all the way at the moment. However, a friend bought a built-up
'gaming machine' (I've mentioned it before here, it's been nothing but
trouble) using an Asus M3A motherboard, a Phenom 9500 CPU, 1x2GB DDR2 module
and a 9600GT.
The machine's abeen a nightmare. Firstly it was...

Good AM2+ mid-priced mobo? by
~misfit~[_3_]
I could use some prompt advice the subject line.
First, it must be said that, while I'm fairly up with the play with Intel
gear these days, AMD is a bit of a mystery to me. However I'm a fast
learner.
A friend bought a lemon. It has an Asus M3A (vanilla) mobo and a crappy
Thermaltake 430 W...

Accurate CPU temp monitor? by
~misfit~[_3_]
Hi.
Up until today I've always considered CoreTemp to be the most accurate for
reading my E4500's currently) temperature. It agrees with Intel's
TAT on temps across the range from idle to 100% load, give or take a degree.
However, while working on a mate's Phenom I downloaded CPUID's...

I always get the best info here.
I've got a Phenom 9500 machine here for a couple days. A mate bought it as a

to become unusable. I've built and set up all his machine's previously so
he's bought it to me to get me to...

Core 2 Extreme QX9650 rig, my O/C swansong? by

Phil recently posted here about how the 'mighty have fallen' w/r/t some of
the heroic tales of overclocks here in years past. I agreed, saying that
there is so much power in modern CPUs that the benefit of squeezing every
last MHz out of your system is hardly apparent other than when you run...

Probably silly question: Do CPUs "age"? by
~misfit~
Ok, here's the situation:
Two PCs, both using the same mobo (Soltek SL-75FRD2-L), nForce2 Ultra 400
chipset. Both have unlocked Barton XP2500+ CPUs. Both around the same age...
being from when Bartons were the (consumer) peak of AMDs CPU line. Both CPUs
overclocked very well, dong 2.2GHz...
