Acronis Utility Exposes Contents of Your Entire Hard Drive by
Ted Zieglar
"Who knows what further details of not only your directory structure it may
be exposing, but maybe the entire contents of the files inside those
directories?"
Shouldn't you find out first, before making accusations (and cross-posting
them.) And what does this have to do with Dell?

Dimension 8400 w/intel 670 3.8gig processor "Thermal Event" by
Brad[_3_]
Yesterday I left my computer on, I normally don't shut it down when
leaving the house for an hour or two. When I got back it was off and
when I booted it up, got the "Thermal Event" Message. I had noticed the
fan running louder the last few days and the web browser locking up.
I usually have...

Ordering an Optiplex 380 Mini Tower by
jim_tehma (e-mail isn't checked)
Hi, I'll be ordering an Optiplex 380 and dell's customization process
made me wonder about a few of the options. I'll be using the machine
for internet, internet video, dvd watching, cd, mp3, skype. Maybe
transcode and burn a video a couple times a month. It doesn't matter
if that takes 30 minutes...

Purchase Dell System from Costco? by
Key Bored
Hi All:
I'm considering buying the Dell Dimension 8400 desktop system. I've checked
Dell's website, customized the system in various ways (including purchasing
the monitor separately), and arrived at a total price that reflected all of
the current "offers".
I noticed that the Costco website at...

Dell's "next day support" fraud by

Dell support sucks!
I believe that Dell defraud customers by advertising "next day
support" service. It is newer next day. I am considering class action
against Dell. If you are interested to join please email at

cabled CMOS battery by
Timothy Daniels[_4_]
My XPS M1330 has a CMOS battery consisting of
a "coin" battery gripped by a vinyl sleeve and
connected to 3 wires which terminate in a small
plug. Dell no longer stocks the item (part no. NX131),
and all the retail outlets only have the "coin" - a
lithium battery designated CR-2032. Before I go...

Which operating system for a Netbook? by
NJ_Annie
Of the three operating systems I see listed for Netbooks, XP, Windows
7 starter and Windows 7, which one would be best suited for a Netbook?
By best suited, I mean which one of the three will tax the system
resources the least? I am more concerned with that than the
functionality of the operating...

Fan Speed Changes? by
Bob_Villa
Our Vostro 230 (4+yrs) changes fan speed for short bursts when 1st started, then it's normal? It has been cleaned inside...and if it was CPU temp, it wouldn't stop (I would surmise). Thanks for anything!

Inspiron N4010 is a horror show by
Ben Myers[_4_]
I have a client with a couple of Insprion N4010s he bought independently of me a couple of years ago. And I acquired a used one myself yesterday, not to use, but as a learning experience.
This system is a maintenance nightmare. Two screws to remove the keyboard and 14 screws to remove the...

What cheap laptop? -- Dell 2200 or another? by
Phred
G'day mates, I'm seeking advice on buying a cheap but reliable
laptop/notebook (or palm?) PC...
I'm basically looking for an easily transportable unit that I can use
away from home for e-mail and contacting web sites to download routine
daily data (mostly fairly small text logs and records, and...

New Computer/Clean up by
Monica
Got my new Dimension 8400 on Thursday. Love it, but hate all the junk Dell
installs. I've got two options. Uninstall what I don't want and use a
registry cleaner to clean up the leftovers. Safer but probably not as
efficient. Or reformat and reinstall XP from one of two sources. My
previous...

Lockup playing AVI file with pivoted display by
Russell May[_2_]
My 2002-vintage computer has a recently-installed CPU and LCD display.
The computer locks up with the display pivoted 90 degrees via
irotate.exe while playing AVI files using Nero ShowTime, producing a
medium-high-pitched sound. The lockup seems to happen only when the
display is pivoted. Nero...

Where can I get a 50 ft null modem cable by
Bruno
I'm trying to connect a PC to another machine (CNC) and basically need
a long null modem cable with DB-9 F connectors on each end. I'm having
a lousy time trying to find one long enough. 25 feet is too short, so
I was hoping for 50 feet.
Anyone have any ideas? Particularly near SF.
Thanks,
Bruno
