Config tools for fibre based RA4x0 systems by
NuT CrAcKeR
I know some of you guys have the answer...
I am beginning to build a scalable storage system using RA400 and RA4100
chassis, compaq fibre hubs (switches when i have more money) and Emulax 1Gb
HBA's.
The SAN/Shared Storage experience i have pertains to EMC's with McData
fabrics. It is nothing like...

Linux support on older Compaq hardware by
Trojan Hussar
I've recently been running a custom Linux distribution on a variety of
older Compaq Proliant servers, namely 5500 Xeon, 1850R and 3000's.
Being a custom Linux variant (loosely based on RedHat 7.2) there is no
support to speak of for Compaq hardware directly especially RAID cards.
Is there a...

Ok.. Since you guys like some bantering...(8-
I've got a few questions for you.. Now that I've had my 6400R up and running
for a while, I think I need to keep my eyes open for a nice backup
device for this thing (of the tape variety).. Are the DLT 70Gb drives
about as good as you can get for...

PXE boot problems on iPaq c500/810e by
msg
Hi all,
Since this a network-centric and Compaq issue, I hope it is
sufficiently topical for this forum...
I posted this in a HP/Compaq support forum and would
appreciate any help from Usenet readers too:

Is it possible to convert a DL380 G2 with SCSI to instead use SATA or SAS?
What are the part numbers for that conversion?

What precisely can you monitor with a RILOE card? by
Jason Arthurs
Keep seeing references to RILOE cards, I even have my eye on a cheap
one being sold locally on eBay. What exactly are you able to monitor
using them?
I can see that they appear to be ethernet or modem capable so was
looking at them as an option for monitoring Linux servers remotely
which don't...

Proliant 3000 Dual processor not recognized by
JanN
I have a Proliant 3000 rack model with two Pentium 2-400MHz processors. They
are both initialized at startup, but I don't see them in Windows 2003
server. Before Win2k3, there was a Win 2000 professional installation on the
server, but that one didn't see the processor either. Any ideas on how...

FS: Compaq Rackmount "Storage System" bays. by
Dan
I've got to many "Storage System" bays, and need to free up some space.
They are similar to the "UI" without the hot-swappable power supply.
Make me an offer, any offer. To ship: You pay for shipping (or pickup in
North Seattle) - what the actual costs are to ship. UPS is the easiest way
to...

When you boot from the system partion (F10 when it beeps twice, and the
cursor goes to the upper right) ... when you get to your first screen of
choices, press CTRL+A to get into advanced mode. then, run the SCU. View the
settings. From there, you will see an option to bypass, or disable the...

Proliant 7000 or 5500? by
Guy Macon
I am thinking of replacing my 200MHz Pentium Pro 5500 with
something a bit faster. There are a lot of Xeon 5500s on eBay
with 400-550 Mhz Xeons, or I have an opportunity to pick up a
Proliant 7000 locally cheap.
Will I be able to put the 3GB of 228471-001 256MB ram chips and the
199598-001 4.3GB...

Proliant 3000 300/333MHz model by
Jason Arthurs
I have just purchased a Proliant 3000 which supports PII 300/333MHz
processors as well as EDO ECC DIMMs. The spec sheet states that there
is an upgrade path for 100MHz processors and SDRAM, can anyone shed
some light on what this might involve?
Regards,
Jason.

Mixed drive sizes in RAID5 arrays? by
Jason Arthurs
A couple of questions regarding RAID5 arrays.
I've always understood that in a RAID5 array the capacity of the array
(assuming identical capacity drives) is (d*n)-d where d is the drive
capacity and n is the number of drives.
At what point does this rule break down? Surely there comes a...

waist high) rack mount cabinet from someone that left at the curb
over the weekend (for vultures like me) and would like to put my Proliant
into it at some point.. My machine currently has the internal rails (the
side that...

Standard Benchmarks for File Servers by
Will
What are considered the standard programs for benchmarking performance of a
file server these days? Ideally I would like to have some measurements not
just on throughput, but on latency on trivial I/O operations like expanding
a share folder. Of course I would want to see some graphs at end...
