mixing hard drives on a 4250es controller, and bigger arrays by
randoms
Anyone know if there is a problem mixing drives with different size
caches in an array on a 4250es controller. They are all compaq 146G U2
drives, some 8MB cache some 16MB cache.
Also, how does one go about configuring arrays larger than 512G? I've
been looking throught the docs but only found...

DL320 not booting from ATA disk when SCSI disk present by
moa
Hi,
Maybe I'm just being stupid, but:
We have a couple of DL320's here running Linux. No problem. However,
when we connect a SCSI disk (array) the thing desn't boot anymore. We
have tried reinstalling the OS, and the installation software sees both
disks during the install, but fails to boot. If...

Hoi fellow admins! How do I get this ancient 1850R to boot without
someone giving it the finger, to the f1 key? It has an 3200 smartarray
controller with raid 5 & hotspare configured. I've used smartstart 5.5
to install the system partition utils, and installed 2003 server from

Lessons learned: Proliant Memory by
VinceV
I just wanted to share an important lesson I learned this week about
the incompatibilty of memory between Proliant systems.
This is a tale of a lad with who acquired a Proliant 1850 sans ram. A
quick trip to HP.com and I determined (or so I thought) the type of ram
I needed.

4214R Drives Stopping and Starting by
Will
I have a Compaq 4214R rackmount drive case where the drives in slots 3 and 4
are stopping after about 15 minutes of use. The next time a Windows 2003
application needs a file on the file system that is mirrored on the drives
in those slots, you can hear the drives starting up, and after a long...

Chicago Update by
NuTCrAcKeR
We got our first snow since Thanksgiving. there is about 10 inches on the
ground out here, and the snow plow burried my car under a drift.
its starting to warm up a little, so the ice is letting go, which means I
can probably get to my car later today.
Ahhh, I love living in the mid-west....

Compaq Presarrio by
ChrisB
A friend has a Compaq Presarrio (500 model I think). He cannot get it to
switch on. The power supply lights up but the laptop is dead, whether he
uses battery or mains.
Any idea what this can be?
Many thanks

Replace SCSI-HDD in ProLian2500 with non-Compaq-Disc by
NuTCrAcKeR
Yes, you may use other disks. however, if they dont have the compaq
firmware, then they will not collect/show all the performance data that
would otherwise be abvailable via the insight agents, and insight manager.

Proliant 1600 loses timesettings by
NuTCrAcKeR
are you truely running ' NT ' , or are you calling 2000 'NT' ?
It sounds to me like you may have a sick server, certainly from the losing
time perspective.
within your OS, i would setup performance monitor traces to see what was
happening with the system. There are other 3rd party tools, like...
