A7N8X Deluxe V2 - Random reset problem by !---m\('o'\)m---!
Hi - I am seeing a weird problem with an A7N8X Deluxe Version 2 motherboard. When playing Command & Conquer - Generals, I will see my system spontaneously reboot. I have seen the rebooting occur at other times as well during "low stress usage"- for example, when using AOL Instant Messenger. I...

A6N32 SLI Deluxe by ##
When my A8N32 Sli wakes up from standby or hibernate state evertime I have a CPU frequency near 2100. I have an AMD 4400+ dual core, BIOS 1303. My board runs with 250 Mhz multiplier 10 at 1,45 Vcore in Bios, 416 Mhz DDR at 2-3-2-6 timing. So far so good. But when the PC wakes up evertime I have...

OT? Minimalist Brick-Powered Mobo That Renders HD? by (PeteCresswell)
I'd like to build a couple of boxes to put under television sets and play HDTV (MPEG) recordings from a server downstairs. I want quiet and minimal power consumption consistent with rendering HDTV. Totally fanless is my ideal. I've seen a couple of low-power boards that run from an...

901 File Manager Abending? by (PeteCresswell)
Just starting to climb the learning curve on my Asus 901. When I open FileManager, I see a couple of work groups on my Windows LAN. But when I click on one of the groups, FileManager clocks for a second or so and then just disappears. No dialog, no nothing... unless there's a window hiding...

ASUS' Web Site? by (PeteCresswell)
\\usa.asus.com I find it: - Slow - Difficult to navigate (i.e. find products I'm looking for) - Lacking in complete product information (e.g. screen rez for the eee box)

P4P800-E: Troubleshooting? by (PeteCresswell)
Northbridge chip went up in smoke. Went to eBay, bought a replacement board from some guy in China. Clearly, it's used. Screwed it into the case, plugged in the memory and cards, I *think* I plugged all the power and other connections correctly. Still, my first suspicion is RCI on the part of...

P4P800-E: Dual Core? by (PeteCresswell)

One CD Drive Much Faster? by (PeteCresswell)
P4P800-E: Two CD drives (actually one CD and one DVD) Memorex 52x CD and MadDog DVD (slower, but not sure how much) Funny thing is, though, that when iTunes rips a CD on the Memorex, it only shows something like "8x" or "6x" whereas when it rips from the MadDog it consistently shows 12-16x......

Finding Out What Memory Is Where In A PC.... by (PeteCresswell)
.... without taking the thing apart and looking? Is there a utility that will tell me which SIMM slots are available and which are used - and how the used ones are populated? I've got some machines that I know have one gig each in them, but need to know what number/sizes of SIMM I have to order...

OT? Laptop Dedicated To VPN/Remote Desktop Use? by (PeteCresswell)
Looks like I might have to acquire a laptop to stay on top of my customers while I go somewhere warm for a few weeks. Does anybody have any suggestions vis-a-vis something that's optimized for VPN/Remote Desktop use? My suspicion is that this is kind of an inane question given that I want a...

Low-End MoBo? by (PeteCresswell)
I've been anointed to supply a PC to a close family member who says they want to do web mail.... period... I'm taking it for granted that what they really want is a little more - including the ability to render YouTube videos. My kneejerk reaction was to go dumpster diving and add some memory to...

UPS Recommendations? by (PeteCresswell)
Have had an APC "Back UPS XS 1500" for several years. It works, but it seems to me like APC is selling batteries. To wit, the thing's software started telling me it was replacement time and "helpfully" pointing me to APC's battery sales site. Went down to Radio Shack instead and got a couple of...

COMPAQ Presario: MB Form Factor? by (PeteCresswell)
Somebody tossed this thing. I replaced a drive, wiggled some cables, installed a system and it's running. Only problem is that it's slow as death. Nice little case, though. Can anybody tell me what to look for in terms of MB form factor on the COMPAQ -

USB2 Keyboard Not Recognized? by (PeteCresswell)
I put a USB2 keyboard on my P4P800-E running Win2000 Pro several weeks ago with no problems at all. "Up"-graded to XP last nite and now, among several other things, I notice: 1) The bios lady is telling me "No keyboard recognized", although XP seems to have no problem with it. 2) My DOS-based...

BlueSky: 901-Type That Does HD Video? by (PeteCresswell)
I use my 901 quite bit to watch TV via something called "SageTV". Think TIVO on steroids with a remote client. It works pretty well for non-HD, but for HD I have to tell it to do on-the-fly transcoding and the motion still isn't all that wonderful. I'm wondering how much of this is the video...
