MSI B450-A PRO doesn't recognize external HDD via esata-sata by
MaxTheFast
I've got a HDD fantec external enclosure with esata II port and its own power supply. I've bought an esata-sata cable to connect this enclosure to one of my mobo's 6 sata III ports.
Firstly I connected the fantec power supply, then its esata-sata cable and then I've started an ubuntu live session....

Home battery tester: measures voltage or current? by
Jon D
I am in the UK. I have a battery tester from years ago which is still
available. It may also be sold in the US.
http://www.avenuesupplies.co.uk/getimage.php?id=98&type=1&format=2
My multimeter shows that this battery tester puts a load of 500 mA on
the 1.5v battery under test.
I have...

Pretty Good Experience Building New PC by
Steven O.
Hi, all. Since there are postings here all the time with questions
about what kind of system to put together, I thought I'd share my
pretty good experience. After tons of research, I realized I had no
idea exactly which parts to buy, so I went to a local computer store,
MicroCenter, and worked...

DC-DC UPS? by
Noozer
Might be a dumb question, but the expensive part of a UPS is converting the
AC to DC for storage, then back to AC for use.
Why not put the UPS *after* the PSU... three (?) mini UPS's actually - 5v,
12v and 3.3v... and the -5v, etc if necessary. It could possibly even mount
into a 5.25" drive...

Better hard drive for laptop? by
JimL
I was looking at Hitachi drives (like what came in my ThinkPad).
A 120GB drive at 5400 rpm costs twice as much ($120 - $63) as a 120GB with
virtually the exact same specs except in 4200 rpm. I see a better
throughput when used internally as opposed to externally. Is that what
makes it worth...

latest max speed with Gigabit switch! by
Geoff[_9_]
Hello
I have connected the 1 Gigabit TP-Link switch and get odd results!
I have a Windows 7 Home Premium and a Windows XP Pro PC connected to
the switch and the ADSL modem/router also connected to it.
The Internet connections seems OK - download/upload speeds as normal
for both PCs.

Keeping confidential data safe? by
AN O'Nymous
I will be away from home for a while. Just a few days ago there was a
break in in a house down the street from my place.
My hard disks at home contain confidential research work. It is
unlikely a thief would be able to make heads or tails of it but I
simply can not bear the thought of it ending up...

Two memory modules go bad at the same time? by
Cyde Weys
So my computer's running fine, and BAM, it suddenly becomes
nonfunctional. It repeatedly insta-reboots from inside Windows.
Windows will start successfully, but try using it for a minute or two
and the insta-reboot occurs. I figured maybe it's a problem with
Windows, so I tried my Gentoo Linux...

I have used both and the Asus was far superior in my opinion.

CPU Temp: 13C by

I have just updated the drivers for my MSI K8T Neo mobo, updated my BIOS and
updated the MSI "CoreCenter" monitoring software.
CoreCenter and the BIOS both give me temperature readings for my CPU. Before
the updates the BIOS and CoreCenter reported my CPU as having temperatures

I got this email purporting to come from eBay inviting me to become a

almost had me, had they not used the wrong font on their fake signing in
page. When I noticed that I realised that the address looked dodgy too.

Physical repair for IDE harddrive by

clicking/scratching sounds. Too far gone for software recovery
without the physical problem being repaired.

Xeon 533 FSB or P4 800 FSB ? (Corrected post) by
Manish M.
Hi Guys,
I am planning to build a high performance workstation. So I know I want a
dual chip system with SCSI.
Form Intel's site it appears that Xeon is a better chip BUT the current
Xeon available here in Toronto is mainly 533 MHz FSB.
These days the P4 with 800 FSB AND higher clock rate is...

Cooling Questions by
Peter Cavan
Hi
I have a Dell Dimension 8300 on which I want to improve the cooling. I want
to do this because I know the PC overheats after about 1 hr and is quite
unstable. There is currently the fan in the PSU and a fan on the back which
is vented to act as the CPU fan. I also added a PCI fan to cool the...
