Mouse locking by
robgraham
Has anyone experienced the problem I have with my Logitech mouse? The screen
cursor tends to freeze and the smallest movement of the mouse wheel
unfreezes it until a few seconds later it happens again. The timing for this
to happen is variable, during the time it took to type the previous eight...

TV digital broadcast card question by
John D99
Is there a card that can used in a pc (using Win XP) that can receive
digital broadcast TV signals, and save them to a hard disk?
What are the factors involved, and roughly what do these things cost?
Thanks

looking for a diagram of the distance of a HDD head from platter by
yerk5
Does anyone have any links to a diagram visually showing the
comparison of the distance of a hard drive read/write head from the
platter to a cross-section of a human hair. I had seen this somewhere
before but despite my best googling, I cant locate one now. Seeking
one for a report I'm working...

Power Supple Question - How Much Power Needed? by
marcbkk[_3_]
I am running an Asus P5K MB with an Intel Quad CPU, an Asus GE Force
8600 GT graphics card, 1 DVD Drive, and with 8GB of RAM. I was running 2
hard disks before and just added a 3rd one into the system. According to
things I have read, I should be running a 600 Watt PSU with this kind of
hardware....

RAM R/W TEST FAILED - Latest by
[email protected]
I have discovered that most likely the problem is a faulty RAM module.
I have two 2GB'ers. When I remove the second one, the error
disappears and I get a good boot. When I replace it, I get the same
error. When I try running with only the second one, I get the error.
I now not only get the...

voltage stress an margin test of system stability by

Another interesting experience with my gigabyte-ga-ma78gm-s2hp mobo
and amd phenom x3 8650:
The system has locked up twice in the last four days, and I am
contemplating trying some accelerated testing to find out what is
going on.
So far I have tried several programs that are on Ultimate Boot...

USB Flash Drives by
Lucas Reece
Looking to buy a new flash drive. I don't know too much about them and
which ones are the best.
Can anyone offer some good recommendations as to what to buy please? I
need at least 16GB + decent speed and for general day to day usage.
What's all this U3 stuff too?
Many thanks.

Trouble with PCI IDE card by
[email protected]
I bit the bullet and bought a new MOBO bundle.
It is:
MOBO M3A78-CM
CPU AMD Phenom 9950 Quad 2.6 MHz
RAM 4GB DDR2
It has only one IDE (PATA) header providing me with only C: hard drive
and D: DVD burner.
I added an IDE card in one of the PCI slots:
Promise PCI Ultra ATA/66 vers 1.11

ultra66 BIOS not installed by
[email protected]
I ask this out of ignorance.
Please.
I am trying to install a new system including an add-on PCI IDE card
to use with hard drives. As I said in an earlier post, I am having
trouble.
However, I noticed that during boot, a message flashes on the screen
saying 'Ultra BIOS not installed'.

Can I win with Moore's law? HDDs and the future. by
Ambjörn Olaf
Hello. I'm looking at buying my first external HDD for backup and to
try out Linux distributions. At the moment I have a small amount of
data and I'm wondering if it's worth while buying 500gb+ when 160gb is
more than enough for the next year or two. A 640gb drive is about twice
the cost of...

Destroying a hard drive by
JD
Hi. I have a faulty hard drive I want to get rid of but a story that
appeared in the news recently (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7816446.stm ) has made me wary of
simply throwing it out. I'd prefer to destroy it. The thing is, this
drive seems as tough as hell. I can't figure out how...

Directional wifi antennae recommendations by
dewey edwards
Hi,
I'm currently recovering from an auto accident (pedestrian).
My situation is that I have wifi where I am, BUT I must travel to the
office to use it (that's outside). Fine in non-snow/ice months.
I am about 100 to 120 feet away from the router/source.
Would this be a viable solution

Can anyone reccomend a nice computer toolkit, preferably with a real leather

high end with like 3 or 4 different pliers, etc..

hard drive for IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T43p (type 2668) by
Boris Epstein
Hi all,
We've got the above laptop (product ID 2668G2U, if that tells you
anything). We got it with a 60 GB factory installed hard drive which
we now would like to upgrade.
Apparently, these things have a custom firmware which would not work
with just any good old ATA hard drives, only with some....
