Need a new ATI/AMD video card for an old Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine. by
Ant[_3_]
.... Since I think my current old ATI Radeon 4870 video card (PCIe) seems
to be dying, I will need to replace it very soon.
I read that ATI/AMD doesn't make newer cards and drivers for old Windows
XP Pro. SP3 even though MS still support it. What's the highest NEW
video card model I can go with...

Lower Power Utilization for High End Video Card? by
W[_3_]
I have an older XP computer in a living room on which I installed an nVidia
GEForce 8800 Ultra. The card performs well, but to my disbelief with the
monitor turned off and the computer doing nothing but displaying an inactive
Windows desktop, the nVidia card is consuming about 160 watts of...

a discrete video card and using both GPU for added performance. I
just purchased a 6670 video card to add to the machine. How can I
tell if the system is doing...

Uninstalling ATI Catalyst v12.6 driver resulted no video signal! by
Ant
Hi!
This was weird. I was uninstalling my AMD Catalyst v12.6 driver to
reinstall it in my old, updated 64-bit W7 HPE (IE8) machine. I
accidently forgot to tell it to remove AMD Install Manager as well.
During its uninstall, I lost my video (LCD Acer HDTV monitor detected no
video signal). I...

Ping RS -- further G40V changes by
Bruce Morgen
The basic mods are done and working
very nicely -- a little advice, if
you would:
1. Is it worth changing the value of
R11? What's in there is much higher
than Leo had it, but then again Leo
used a lower-gain V1A triode and
shared the cathode circuit between
two channels, and if the diagrams are

Losing time when using DVI and not VGA? by
Ant[_3_]
Hello.
Does anyone know why using DVI makes my computer's clock/time slow down?
I notice the the slow downs even after a minute of using DVI. If I use
VGA (with a DVI adapter), then I have no problems. I also can make it
stop losing its time if I disable all video accelerations in Windows XP...

Dxdiag is telling me my Radeon HD 5770 only has 626 mb of VRAM? by
Cameron Makowski
I'm getting a confusing reading from dxdiag, and I think it's
preventing me from playing a few high performance games (Skyrim D:)
Well, ny AMD Vision Engine Control Center is telling me I've got 4735
mb of VRAM, while the dxdiag is telling me I've got 626. Any ideas? :(

Apologies for cross-posting; there is no single newsgroup for discussing
video adapters without reference to brand (ATI, nVidia, etc) or system
(PC, Mac).
Some questions for those of you who use aftermarket coolers to extend
the lives of your expensive video adapters:
There seems to be two...
