Wait by
RDN
I would bet, by now, that the majority of the users of this newsgroup
are running a system with a 64 bit cpu.
Microsoft will ship "Windows Vista in November 06". First for
business than in "January 07" for Home users.
Quick survey - How long will you wait until you full upgrade or switch

Budget Solution -- Cheap Core 2 vs Cheaper X2 by
[email protected]
The C2D is definitely superior, see e. g.

Ah, but will Intel's quad-core solution be superior to AMD's? That is
the thousand dollar question. I know next year I'll be able to plug a
quad-core Barcelona...

Back plate question by
Travis King
I assume that the back plate for the A64 on the back of the motherboard
touches the case, it's okay, right? I know the motherboard itself isn't
supposed to or it'll short out, but is the back plate fine if it makes
contact with the case?

for those wondering about dual core bios by
dead kitty
Last night I put together
4400+
ABit Fatal1ty SLI
4GB DDR400 Extreme Performance
MSI 6800 PCI-E16
and it is FAST (much faster than my 3200+ 1M/754). The BIOS had not been
updated for dual core so the ABit only saw one cpu that it listed as "AMD
Hammer Family - Model Unknown", but flashing went...

will 400Mhz PC3200 memory run at 333Mhz for Opteron 242 CPUs? by
Dave
Hi All,
I had ordered PC3200 memory for the Opteron 242 by mistake instead of the
PC2700 memory (246 and above use the 3200).
I am still waiting for other parts to come in and was hoping I did not have
to exchange the PC3200 memory for the PC2700 as I would have to pay a hefty
restocking fee to do...

Windows 64 bit beta worth using? by
William A. Leaphart
I just ordered a 3200+ and an MSI (K8T NEO-FIS2R) board and now I'm
wondering what the beta 64 bit windows XP is like. Is it buggy and is it
worth using now? I downloaded the iso for 64 bit XP, used Nero to burn to a
cd but am I asking for problems? Thanks in advance. Roadkill

64 bit OS compatability by
Menuz2
If I load a 64 bit Linux, such as SUSE, will it run both existing 32 bit and
new 64 bit binaries. Not every program I would like to use is available in
source. Most but not all. The same question for the beta XP 86-64 release.
Normal Win32 OS's did a good job running 16 programs, I am just...

Looking for a good AMD Duo Core and small mobo combo by
TBerk
Is there a good recommendation for a AMD cpu (Duo Core pls) with a
motherboard that will, oh I suppose, some SATA and USB 2.0 of course.
Really the motherboard isn't really (right now) the consideration, I'm
just looking to bridge from an old K6-2 setup to something a little
more modern w/o...

[email protected]
Hello,
I have a dilemma on my next computer upgrade since my Athlon 64 3200+

Company of Heroes, etc.) and upcoming games (e.g., Crysis, C&C3, etc.).
I do non-gaming too like watch HDTV shows, DVDs, videos, listen to
music, Web...

Hi!
I chanced upon this newsgroup while I was desperately looking for help in
using my 64-bit commercial Fujitsu Siemens computer, and I must say that you
folks really know your computers and I've received a lot of help and
encouragement. I've also recently found another Internet newsgroup...

AMD 64 X2 4200 or 4400? by
Don Burnette
Hi all,
I plan on ordering either the AMD X2 4200 or the 4400.
There is about a 100 dollar difference in the price at Newegg, obviously due
to the 4400 having the larger L2 cache ( 1mb per core versus 512 kb per core
on the 4200).
Both are listed as 2.2 ghz processors.
I use my computer mainly...
