Question - Linksys WMP110 PCI network adaptor by
Frederick
I found this adaptor and wonder if it is of any use to me. It only
has one antenna (top) - the other antenna is missing. I do have a
wireless router, and it would be great if my computer could connect
wirelessly. No point trying if I need both or the other antenna(s).
Thanks
Big Fred

Split Screen by

I have a NEC MuliSync LCD 1970 GX monitor. I am running WinXP Pro SP3

when I start up the computer the monitor comes up with a line across the
middle of the screen. It looks like the screen may be shifted up half a...

Slow boot by
ElJerid[_3_]
My PC (Core 2 duo 8400 @ 3.6 Ghz, 4 GB Corsair DDR2, Intel SSD, XP Pro)
normally boots in 12 sec (from POST to Windows welcome screen).
After mounting a Matrox RT-X100 video card, the boot time has increased to
45 sec. That means 33 seconds just for identifying a single card ! Once
booted, the...

nVidia GT 520 rendered onbord sound card useless? by
Bubba[_3_]
Greetings to all,
the machine in question is HP dc5850 (Phenom X4, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 x64)
machine that had Quadro NVS 285 card inside. Due to some requirements,
machine had to be equipped with CUDA capable dual monitor LP card. Since
price *did* matter, I obtained 70$ worth PoV GT 520 card and...

Small Form-factor Power Supply Failure by
Grinder
I've got a Dell Inspiron 531S -- one of those slimline desktops -- that
will not power up, nor show any sign of life.
Pulling the power supply and hooking up a known good unit permits the
machine to boot normally. Putting one of those power supply testers on
the suspect PSU shows normal...

thermal paste and overheating, cause and effect? by
micky
Is it true that: Not only can uneven (missing on both surfaces in
some areas), dried-out white thermal paste after the heat sink is
removed be a symptom of a CPU that overheated, it can also be the
cause of the overheating in the first place instead. ??
If that's true, and if one wasn't...

Want fast SATA HDD, recommendations? by
~misfit~[_15_]
Hi group.
I have a tower system that I basically use as storage and backup for my
laptop HDDs. It has four SATA trayless removable HDD 'docks' (for want of a
better word) that I use to facilitate transferring data and doing backups.
It works well.
(System is an Asus P5KE-WiFi/AP board with a...

So I need memrory for a computer that has only 256K!
A Dell Dimension 4700, it can take four 1-gig DIMMs and Cruscial

Flatbed scanner speeds by
Pimpom
I have a very occasional need for a flatbed scanner. For about
the same price, I can get either a new no-frills entry-level
scanner or a used HP Scanjet 6300c. The HP 6300c is an old model
that was, according to reviews, a versatile and blazingly fast
mid-range model when it was new 10 years ago....

2400+ by
micky
I see a lot of sentences like this:
I own a A7M266 motherboard and it runs with an Athlon XP 2400+ .
Does 2400+ mean a 2.4 GHz cpu, and 1200 means 1.2GHz.?
It might be obvious to some, but the two nomenclatures seem more
separate than a most synonmyous terms are, if indeed they are
synonymous.
