HOW2 reset 2 day old Win8.1 disaster? by
[email protected]
Paul,
my X86 system was stolen. Fortunately I've got the backup disks.
Since Win7 crashed 2 years ago, I only use Linux.
In order to get on-line with a 3g-modem, which would not connect
via my RPi
I decided to buy a laptop. A 'Proline' was twice the hardware for the
same price as I paid for a...

One more HP question by
Thip
I actually got Windows reloaded on this stupid HP p6 and it booted, but I'm
convinced the hard drive is failing fast. If I were to make an image of the
boot partition, could I legally restore it onto another drive? This family
can't afford and new drive and a copy of Windows.

error NVIDIA stripe by
Norm X[_2_]
Hello,
In the last chapter I had put Win10 Professional on what was my seldom used
backup 278 GB Seagate. In order to get this to work without complication I
had removed the power cables from the drives of my 3 drive RAID 0 storage
array. My clumsy hands had pulled out two bottom data cables....

Dead HDD by
Thip
I posted about the Pavilion p6. I WAS able to get a look at the drive but
couldn't touch any of the files. So, as a last resort I popped the drive
into my case. It tried to chkdsk but I bypassed that and booted into
Windows. I tried a couple rescue utilities, the last one being Clonezilla,...

Pavilion p6-2330 by
Thip
I'm trying to repair this for a friend. It goes to the W8 startup, which
whirls around for several minutes and goes to a blank screen. The easiest
thing to do would be to use a repair CD/USB, but I can't get into the BIOS
to change the boot order. I've tried F1, F8, F9, F10, F11, and all...

How much memory on video card? by
Micky[_2_]
I bought a new used PCI-ex16 video card that says on it
"256MB onboard supporting 512MB DDR2".
Where are these other 256MB supposed to be?
Plugged into the card?
In Pittsburgh?

netbook doesn't finish charging by
Micky[_2_]
I have an Acer netbook, and the battery loses a lot of juice when it's
off. I turned it on last night and it was down to 25%, after sitting
for 2 months or more.
I plug in the charger and the Power Meter window says its charging,
and it slowly climbs to 90%. About that time, I noticed that...

nvraid error Win10 by
Norm X[_2_]
Hi,
I've encountered "nvraid error" in my (hopefully fixable) install of Win10
ultimate on my desktop. Years ago I set up a 3 drive RAID 0 storage array
with three partitions.. Fortunately, I can still boot from the partition
with Visa-32 installed. Using checkdisk it has discovered may errors...

Router problem by
philo
There is no doubt I need a new router. It's an old Linksys four port and
not worth fooling with since I really want to replace it with an 8 port)
At least twice a month there is no connectivity and all I have to do
is toggle the power.
Today something happened that I just plain don't...

what would I see on a scope? by
Norm X[_2_]
Hi,
Wikipedia and other sources say that for long length of USB cable, one
should use a USB repeater. A hub will do. The use of a powered hub may make
a difference. I have been experimenting with an Alfa USB WiFi adapter. It is
very hard to find convincing benchmark measures of improvement. The...

Router sulks, then works. by
Micky[_2_]
On one of these groups, I posted about 6 months ago about the adapter
for my router failing after a power outage. Apparently it's not a
power surge but just normal unplugging and replugging that is bad for
many things (especially maybe if they can cool off in between). I
used a universal adapter...

How to find specs on Toshiba laptops? by
~misfit~[_16_]
Hi Group.
I've got two Toshiba Satellite A200 laptops (both PSAF6A series) in bits and
I'm pretty sure I can put together one good one. However I'm having trouble
finding the specs of each machine - mainly so I'll know which lid has the
best display in it.
(I don't want to have to try each and...

Make external drive sleep when PC sleeps by
Micky[_2_]
I would like the opposite of what an earlier OP wants. I'd like my
external drive to sleep when the computer sleeps, I guess mostly so
the drive won't wear out. Is this now standard with external drives
or should the advertising mention it if it's true?
When I bought an external drive for a...

I think one of my USB3 slots is not working. My case has six mobo USB
slots on the rear, two USB3, four USB2, a USB PCI card with five rear

I have two USB devices that seem to work just fine in most USB slots,

I have been running win7enterprise-64 since 2010. It is time to reinstall to

charity. It is really tedious to download from possibly reputable sources.
Pale moon allows for installation of torrent support. On Pirate...
